Spare Tire core?
« on: March 06, 2005, 07:36:16 AM »
Does this ball have a regular core like what is in the White Dot's or Blue Dot's and other Plastic balls... or is it more like the core that is in the Lane #1 XXXL?

It's just the Spare Tire lol.  That's the shape of the core.  Albeit the actual tire size might be the size of probaly a baseball.  I think the clear plastic coverstocks magnify the core tremedously.

i disagree with DP3, the size of the core that u see is the actual size. I drilled a storm football a while back...and the drill bit went into the football, and from the ouotside u can see that it went into the football so i would have to say that it is actual size. If it were the size of a baseball it wouldnt hit at all...and the clear balls are said to hit harder than regular polyester balls.

Email Storm, they will tell you how big the actual core is in those clear plastics.  Then give me some proof.  I'm going on solely what Roto Grip did with the Grenade and what Ebonite did with their clear plastics with objects inside.

The core of my Team Storm spare ball is suppose to be a cube, but i think its more rectangular. The cover does magnify it though. The reason i think its rectangle, is bc where we drilled it the fingers and thumb went into the core but on the left or right side i could see it wouldn't go into it i don't think.

Stll bigger then i thought it was.

I don't have to email storm.  I already know what the process is in making a clear polyester from what they have told me in the past.  The core is no bigger than a baseball.  Roger reads these boards, I'm sure he'll clear everything up.

The Tire core is probably about 5" in height.  The sphere does provide as an optical illusion in making the cores looker larger than they actually are.  If you ever want to know the size of a weight block you can tell by drilling the fingers (or any hole) close to the pin.  Whatever the distance is from the top of the cover to the core, x by 2 and subtract by 8.5".  That should give you a rough estimate, but isn't true for EVERY ball.  I was asked this question the other day and I believe the Core in the Spare Tire is 5 - 5 1/2" tall.  The Football is actually the smallest weight block of all the Storm Sport Series polyesters.  It fits in the palm of your hand for the most part.

Thanks,
