How Should I drill My Silver Streak SE?
« on: December 07, 2005, 09:54:44 AM »
After much deliberation I have decided to go with a Silver Streak SE to compliment my Epic and am looking for drilling advice. Not being a ball driller myself I would like to visit the pro shop armed with as much information as possible on what layout best suits me. Please be aware I don’t know what a “4 X 4” and so on drilling is so please be descriptive on pin & cg positions.

My stats are as follows:
I am a tweener with a ball speed of 17 mph with 16 revs. With my epic I usually start out playing fourteen out to about seven. By the third game however, I am usually playing twenty out to ten & I feel like I have to fight my Epic to not hook early.  For the most part I play on a typical house shot but has an out of bounds outside of five. Inside of twenty is flooded as well which makes carry difficult for me when I move in that deep. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The following link shows a photo of the layout on my Epic, which is 15 lbs:

The other thing I might do, (if your happy with the movement of the Epic) it use basically the same pattern as on the Epic, but move everything up so that the pin is slightly above your ring finger.  A little more length before the ball makes it's move.  That's what my SE looks like.  I don't have much mileage on it, but I love what I see so far.  Of course, if your PAP is much different, saying where you place the pin and CG doesn't mean much.

Some good reading.

I'd agree w/ Strider.....

This way you can probably stay in the same area you were with your Epic but just simply change balls!

Hmmm..   I do very much like the ball shape that I am getting out of my Epic with the exception of the early move it makes later in the set. My thought was to definitely go with a drilling that would make the ball go later down the lane before it makes its move to the pocket. Will the core/combinations of these to balls be different enough o accommodate this if I go with a similar drilling? I do think that I want a decent gap between my Epic & my SSSE and maybe the mechanics of these two balls will be the ticket but I’m not sure. When I move in deep, there is enough oil that I need to swing it enough to catch some dry or my carry goes down (usually a weak ten). However if I get it to the dry at all early the ball over reacts and goes high. Thanks so much for the input & keep it coming.

Scott......what are your dimensions on your Epic drill? Find out from your driller what the Epics Pin to PAP distance is, and Pap to CG distance is.....

we'll hook ya up!

Jeffrevs,
I have done a little research at the lanes in regards to my pap & found my balance hole shown in the picture to be on my PAP. The following link is a photo showing the dimensions to from the Pin to PAP & my PAP to CG on my Epic. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

Ryan,
That being said where should the MB be in the image that Jeff posted? Currently the MB on my Epic is 5-1/4” from my PAP (vertically in line with the PIN). If I understand your post correctly, & I want the ball to go down the lane further before it starts to move, I should select a ball with a shorter PIN to CG distance?

Ryan, I see what you're saying, but the mass bias on a symetrical ball like the SSSE is virtuall insignificant...basics for finding it is to draw a line 6 1/4 inches from the pin thru the CG and there is your MB (if any) ....

Scott it would be in the same basic location

6 3/4 but who's counting anyway?  Nice diagram Ryan.  I have one in 3D somewhere on my school's network drive that I did for an Autocad project.
