how to clean the cell?
« on: April 27, 2008, 10:55:00 AM »
I wanted some tips on cleaning my new cell. I bowled a tournament this weekend with my new cell. It only has 9 games on it but the oil pattern was heavy. I don't have a ball spinner, so I would like to know should i soak it to keep the oil out of the ball? How should I clean it at this point. Thanks for your help.

I have never soaked a ball, so no clue on that. I just use clean and dull by hand after each set and the ball still looks brand new after 2 + months..

For a dull ball used on heavy oil, Clean and Dull is THE cleaner to use. I doubt if there's any need to do an oil extraction after just 9 games, but the ball should ALWAYS, EVERYTIME be cleaned before being put back in the bag. Once it's in there, any oil laying on the surface will be absorbed, even with the Cell's special cover, designed to absorb more slowly.

The best everyday cleaner is still Lanemaster cleaner. SOme other good ones, in my opinion, are Neo-Tac's Liquid Nitro, Brunswick's Remove-All, and Black Magic Rejuvenator. One of these should be carried in your bag and used with a CLEAN cloth to clean the ball's surface before putting it/them back in your bag.

AFter a heavy oil tournament or after 15-25 games use of a dull ball on oil, you should clean it with Clean and Dull. It is a 3 step process best done at home. It requires a towel with C&D, a wet towel, then a dry towel to be done right.

An oil extraction is needed every 50 - 100 games depending on circumstances and your seeing any degradation in ball performance.

Acetone is illegal there buddy. Also it changes the chemistry of the resin. I would use rubbing alcohol and then maybe once a month do a hot water bath.

Don't bother telling that to 302efi -- he doesn't care.

Clean & Dull is my favorite cleaner.  It gets oil, grime, dirt, belt marks, etc. off your ball with little effort.

Actually, I've found Lanemasters/Legends cleaner to remove some marks that even Acetone wouldn't remove. Nowadays, the only time I use acetone is to remove excess insert glue from the surface.

Step 1:  Use the Clean & Dull on the ball
Step 2:  Wipe the residue off the ball with a wet rag
Step 3:  Dry the ball with a dry towel
