I have the Phaze and love it. I am left-handed and play mostly on house shots and have relatively medium speed and rev rate.
The best way to compare it to other Storm/Roto equipment is in terms of RESPONSE TIME to friction. The Phaze is slower than most other storm-roto pieces. That does not mean it does not hook as much. It just changes direction more slowly.
The main difference that I like is that when the ball encounters friction before I wanted it to (because I miss left, for example), the Phaze does not overreact. I would expect a Hy-Wire to turn left quickly when hitting friction, similar to my Rocket.
Another way to look at it is that the Phaze reacts more like a ship, while the rocket reacts more like a speedboat.
So, when I hit friction early with the Rocket, it quickly changes direction and kind of rolls out. If I hit friction early with the Phaze, it changes direction more slowly and hits the pocket a lot harder.
In this way the Phase is more forgiving. It's just not what a lot of people expect from Storm in a Pearl.
