Hyper Cell Skid sanded
« on: March 13, 2016, 12:08:55 AM »
Curious how well a sanded HCS (e.g. 1000 grit) reacts on long and/or heavy oil conditions? Of course there are several other ball options optimal for such conditions, but I was wondering how a sanded 73MH pearl coverstock would react.

I had a 5 1/4" pin-up skid with OOB cover intended for when lanes broke down a bit; very strong backend and had trouble controlling it at times on various lane conditions. Looking to try a pin-down (4 1/2"-5") HCS with quite a bit of surface as another option for heavy.

I have an HCS that I re-drilled pin down and sanded for the very same reasons you mentioned above. It was originally pin-up and the backend was entirely too much for me with my slow speed. Plus, I am rev-dominant.

I have had good success with mine sanded and then applying a very light coat of polish. When I say light, I mean real light, as in just using an older polishing rag and hitting the ball for 10 seconds on the spinner.

I do not use mine on heavy oil however, I use it on medium oil and it works fine. Just be advised that lane shine automatically kicks in after a few games, which is why I don't use it on heavy conditions.
