Hyped solid and Bowling This Month.
« on: October 30, 2022, 01:29:47 AM »
Don’t know if anyone can help me but I have the chance to get a good deal on a Hyped solid and can’t really understand the rating BTM have given it.

Both Trevor Roberts and Luke R rate the ball as either similar to or just a little weaker than the IQ Tour Solid. Trevor saying he polished his and he felt it made it like a mini IQ tour which would be absolutely perfect for my needs. So I order it as if my pro shop sells this one then it would jump massively in price due to the very weak pound and ordering from the US. Great I thought.

Then I popped over to BTM to check out their thoughts and I found my subscription has just finished. Ok no worries I can still see their numbers for it. I was blown away by how strong a ball they felt it was. It shows up as slightly stronger Original Idol. WOW, that’s very strong in my eyes.

Now I love my Idol but due to my speed and revs, I have very little chance to use it as it’s so early and strong for me on what I bowl on.

What are your thoughts, is it as strong as an Idol or is it a “baby” IQ Tour solid when polished?

I know this is a bit cheeky but would someone who has a current subscription to BTM be willing to do a pdf or something of their review of the Hyped solid as I was not planning on renewing my subscription until after Christmas due to my current lack of funds. I know it’s very cheeky but it would help me out immensely and settle my worries if BTM have ratings for light and medium oil patterns as that’s supposedly the  catagory that the Hyped Solid is in.

star---Factor in your own stats and lane conditions you bowl on and don't give BTM another thought.  Their testing process (how they layout balls for stroker, tweener, cranker are way flawed, patterns they use to test, etc) are wacky.  They always test OOB and the Hyped Solid from factory is very, very dull in most batches OOB.  So, those total hook numbers are way more than a lane shined or polished HS.

If you need another opinion is find a patch pirate that doesn't edit shots with your stats. on the type of lane condition that you bowl on.  That's the best way to get an idea if you might match up well to the ball in question.  Problem with most house shots that patch pirates use to test and video on is they are generally medium-heavy and they have more ball speed than the majority of senior bowlers have so throw everything out the window.  It's a best guess scenario.  For the majority of bowlers on house an entry level lower cost ball will do better than any of the big balls brought to market.  ie. the Hustles 2.55 .030 are enough strength for the majority of us or solid and pearl Rhino 2.54 .030 and won't break the bank.  BTM doesn't even get test balls for these lower end so you never know anyway if you rely on BTM.  Balls are getting way to expensive for what they are for the majority of house hack bowlers like myself as an example.  The only folks that need these high dollar strong balls are speed dominant puckers on medium-heavy.  Plus there aren't many that bowl sport or PBA that could use the medium to high end equipment.

Just one house hacks opinion.   ::)

Thanks Scott.

I did ask him about a Hustle Camo as I just need something that doesn’t over react on the back end. However all he had was the Hyped Solid.

We bowl medium oil wood lanes that have just been resurfaced so they hold up quite well. However the lane machine is nearly 30 years old and doesn’t strip anymore so that’s done by hand and leaves a patchy back end for the first game or so. This is when I want the Hyped Solid as my Purple Hammer Urethane (4000+) can be a bit flat if I get pushed deeper than middle arrow as it can be too early and 10 pin city. However it’s the only ball I have that doesn’t over/under constantly. It can make it tougher later though as I can push quite a bit of oil into the breakpoint area.

The best ball I ever had for the lanes was a polished solid that’s why I thought I’d give this a try as pearls, even dulled can be very unpredictable for that first game and a half. I’m hoping its a good choice.

Hyped Solid has been great for many in my area. Getting used on house with some polish and also getting a lot of use in our tournaments on medium sport conditions at 2000 or 3000.

I personally would equate the Hyped Solid as a "baby" Zen Master. The heavier rolling tendency of the Hyped core reminds me a lot of the Zen core.

Dont put too much thought regarding BTM.  Best thing to do is watch the ball reaction videos posted on Youtube for the simple fact that you can actually see what the ball is doing and they do a good job at letting you know what conditions they are using for the review.  Another ball you may want to consider is the new Blue Messenger.  I laid one out for a teammate of mine last week and he really likes it.  Compared to the Hyped; it will be slightly cleaner through the front and a pinch more on the backend and it comes OOB at 3000.

Hi Steven, thanks for the help.

I will have to ask him about that Solid Messenger, looks like that may be very much the look I’m after. It’s very much the shape I get with my Purple Urethane so it suits my eye. Don’t know if he stocks Columbia but definitely worth asking.

It’s tough finding something for that first game or so without making it more difficult later in the block.

Getting old has made bowling a lot more challenging and why does every new ball have to be more hooking than last years. In 2005 finding a ball was easy, just adjust to how much hook it gave you, simple.

That is the issue as bowlers age and lose ball speed become more rev dominant all the majority of the reactive equipment made today is strong.  There are plenty of house conditions put out today that are light-medium 38-40', 20ml, 10:1 with nothing outside.  the balls like Hyped Solid, C300 PowerCor Messenger Solid are very strong balls if you don't have enough volume or ball speed.  What works for one may not work for another.  Add in cost in UK you can wind up with a turd that costs a lot more today than it cost a year or two ago.

It's definitely in the "IQ with a bit more punch down lane" range.

I sub on a team and get to watch one frequently.

I'm willing to be it's closer to a burner solid at the grit if that makes sense.
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???

Thanks Bill.

I have an IQ black which is an IQ core with a reactor cover on it, awesome ball. That’s why when Trevor Roberts said baby IQ tour solid my eyes popped. I thought ideal for that fist game or so.
