I caved in and drilled up a Cell..
« on: January 25, 2008, 09:53:42 PM »
I have not liked the last 2 RG balls I have drilled up but with all the hype on this ball, I traded a NIB BW Bite for a Cell and drilled it up 4 x 4.. I will get to throw it tomorrow am to see if its the real deal or not!! LOL..

I was not sure how I wanted to drill it and had sent Mustang Guy a private message asking his thoughts of how I should drill it and he read my message but never replied back to me. I was kind of disappointed in that.. Oh well..

A couple of funny things.. My pro shop guy got a case of the Cells and one of them out of the box was highly polished!! Plus, the little ino sheet in the box with the drill instructions says the Cell coverstock is PARTICLE!! Whats up with that? Everything I have read states it is a dull solid reactive..

there was a misprint on the spec sheet that came in the box they discussed it at the storm roto seminar it is a reactive coverstock i think you'll like it in oil it has from what I've seen a very different cover it take 3 to 4 times as long for the oil to start soaking in the ball so you should be able to keep it lively for longer than the other balls on the market. you also may or may not like the move on the backend its a nice strong arc (for me anyway) versus the aggressive angle of the bite

I actually prefer the arc type or reaction over the skid/flip, so that will be just fine.. I just had problems with carry on the last 2 RG balls I drilled up.. I have heard the Cell carries very well..

i drilled mine up last night before a sweeper for the state master wasn't really comfortable with it there so when i got back in town i preceded to throw 4 games with it the first being a 205 the next being 277,298,243 if i got the ball to the pocket it carried jeff carter even though hes a storm guy was throwing one at the seminar and was speaking highly of it

I also drilled ip a Quest and did not like it at all.. I am hoping for better things from this RG ball..

jkiser01, the Hipe got to me too & I recently ordered my Cell Yesterday! A couple of month's ago, I entered a drawing for the Epic Quest and won that ball from the RotoGrip website, I drilled it twice and never really got a good read no matter where or how I used it, I decided to Roll the Dice on this ball over buying a Blast Zone for National's here in Albuquerque.

I guess I should have tried emailing them from the RG website. I sent mustang guy a message here, he read it, but never responded at all.. I know the is busy but a quick, I am busy and will get back with you later would have been appreciated.. Oh well, no big deal, I talked with my driller and we decided on a 4 x 4 drilling which has always worked well for me..

quote:
The clincher on buying this ball was the Fast response from The Roto staff to my drilling question for this ball for my Low Track, they suggested placing the Pin under Bridge 4 inches from PAP and placing the Mb between my VAL and Grip line, I looked at buying a Blast Zone and I looked at it's Asymmetric drilling's for us Low Track guys and it suggested the same exact drilling so I'm hopeful this ball will be a better choice than the proven Activator covered Blast Zone!

I made my order yesterday as well.  I was looking at the BW Bite do to the fact that I have always had great success with my Widow Series, but I went with the Cell instead.

A Guy on my team drilled up the Bite and used it last night, and I have to say, it looked very very very good.

I can only hope my Cell will be just as special

go 4 1/2 pin and 4 1/2 mb i think 4 x 4 is too much on this ball, you might as well drill it like i would since i will be buying it next week just kidding or maybe not hahaha

Mine is 4.5" x 5.5" (~80 degrees) x 2.5" (ht above midline). Seems to work fine. I posted some impressions on another thread.

4x4 should work, depending on the oil and bowler's release. Might need sanding to next level - 3000 grit.

You are correct but i am just trying too help Jim with the stock grit, my mb might be closer to 5 inches really i honestly rarely measure exacts. It is about 1 1/4 right and below my thumb and i am 5 3/8 over and 3/8 or so up.

All i know is the ball needs alot of oil or burns up energy fast and taps back rows, great ball when most balls will not even wrinkle though.
