FIGJAM - 829 with the Cell
« on: April 03, 2008, 01:25:32 AM »
I finnally drilled up a Cell that I have been wanting to do since I was in Vegas at the roller, they were just out of 16s. So last night I got to use it for the first time on a house shot, just been practicing with it on the nationals pattern and a few PBA patterns.

300, every shot 10 back
229 with a not so great off my hand ring 7 in the tenth
300, about 8 shots where I just ripped the rack as I was moving deeper every third shot to keep the ball in oil.

829, I couldn't believe how this ball can roll heavy in the oil and not ping a seven, but if you miss into the burn, not jump on the face to go 2-4-7. One of the best balls I have drilled up in a few years. After I was done, 4 people went into the pro shop at the bowl and ordered one up. This ball is sick.

Yeah, real nice set.  Probably the front runner for ball of the year?  I might have to get one, but I have enough stuff already.  Maybe I buy it & stow it for a yr or 2.

Great bowling!

Is the layout on the ball the same that's in your profile?  Just curious because I've exchanged some email with Roger and he suggested a 4.5" Pin to Pap and 3" Pin to MB with a 4" Pin buffer for me. I've been really sitting on the fence between the Cell and the TRoad Solid. I'm just waiting for the leagues to finish so I can use whatever money I get back to get one of those 2 balls.

It is, but I'm not sure what the pin buffer is. As someone who owned both the TRoad Solid and the Cell, it would be hard to recommend the TRoad over the Cell. The problem I had with the TRoad was it wanted to burn up so quickly when it hit the pins it had no energy left and it flared so much that I hit the thumb hole as the ball entered the pins. After putting a flare reducing hole in the ball I got a little better reaction out of it, but it was never a ball that I wanted to go to. Once I shinned it up, I was able to use it on some dry lanes because when it would just roll out about 50 feet down the lane. The layout on your TRoad pearl was pretty close to what I did on the solid. The nice thing about this Cell is just the roll, it gets into such a great roll quick, but somehow saves energy for the pins and keeps them low. I think this is one of the best balls that I have drilled up since the HPD back in the late 90s.

This will be the ball of the year for 2008 and no doubt if they release a pearl version of this in 2009, that will be the ball of the year then. Hank really did a great job on this one.

Thanks for the great feedback. I really appreciate the comparison you gave because I can relate to my trial and error efforts in getting the Odyssey to work where I thought it should be.

Roger did mention that even though the Cell has an Asymmetrical core, I would like it because it fits in my preference of a symmetrical one. I'm sold now so in about 4 weeks, I'm going to get myself a Cell.
