Layout 4 ½ x 30
Surface – 4k fast
The new Idol Cosmos brings back the Ikon core with the Xtremetrax Pearl Coverstock. The Cosmos is a nice step down from the Idol Helios which has the Xtremetrax Solid Coverstock. At the new 4k fast finish, the Cosmos tends to be a little more smoother then what you would typically see in a pearl ball. Depending on the conditions you bowl on, this finish can be pretty beneficial for you. If you prefer that more skid flip reaction, put some Storm Reacta Shine on it for a longer and more angular motion.
Test pattern: 2022 USBC Masters
When throwing the new Cosmos on the USBC Masters pattern, I saw a lot of midlane roll and continuation down lane. The 4k fast finish didn’t make the ball sensitive to bowl the oil and the friction. Even with the higher volume on this pattern, the ball had no trouble continuing well through the pins. Comparative to the Idol Helios, I saw slightly less midlane roll with more backend motion. The Cosmos allowed me to open the lane up more then the Helios due to the coverstock differences. As the pattern broke down, the smoother 4k fast finish didn’t quite produce enough angle down the lane as my feet got into the 30 board range. Putting polish on this ball would allow me to play more angle if preferred. At the current box finish, the Cosmos would have more success on fresh to first transition on the lanes.
