Inital Cell impressions
« on: February 13, 2008, 11:05:27 PM »
Picked up the Cell last week and had it drilled pin right of ring, and just slightly higher than even with the ring finger, 4" from PAP, MB 2-1/2" right of thumb, 3-1/2" from PAP.  Weight hole was drilled to bring it back to static legal, although I don't remember the size or depth right now.  Will edit tonight.  I have left the cover in OOB condition.

Threw two games with it yesterday on a leftover day shot.  I have no idea how much traffic was on the pair that I was on, but I warmed up throwing my Horizon Solid (pin in bridge, 4-1/2" from PAP , CG 4" from PAP, 2000 Abralon) and was throwing 15 at the arrows out to a breakpoint of 7-8.  Ball had a hard time turning the corner and left 2-4-5's and buckets.  Picked up the Cell on the same line and strung 7 in a row, 4 pin and spared, off the sheet for a 279 out of the box.  Threw a few out to the 5 board at the breakpoint and the Cell had no problem turning the corner.  Second game was 257.  Threw some more practice shots afterwards and left two 10 pins when I tried to bump into the 4th arrow.  As others have mentioned, this ball is not designed to cover a lot of boards.

After 2 games with the Cell, I'm impressed.  It is too early to give a formal review, but this ball so far is living up to the hype for me.  I will throw it in league on Friday on a fresh shot to see how it does.  The ball rolls very smooth and delivers a very solid hit.

I'll update later, but so far I must say great job Roto-Grip!

I finally saw my first one in action Tuesday.  Bowler was a low end tweener, throwing it on an average house shot.  The guy doesn't look like much, but puts up a lot of big scores.  He's got some other high end equipment (scuffed TNV, Resurgence), but he didn't throw anything else that night to compare to.  Anyway, the Cell might have the strongest midlane of anything I can remember seeing.  Pretty clean through the heads (second shift, but heads were in good shape, so hard to tell how it would react on something more broken down), and a nice hard arc on the back end.  I wouldn't say a unique roll, but noticeably different than anything I've seen recently.  Carry was good, but probably would have been better on more oil.  If you throw on a pretty juicy shot and need more roll in the mid lane, this could be the ball for you.  I'm still tossing around between this ball and a few others, but I really liked what I saw from the Cell.  I just wish I could see it on more oil.
