roto grip orginal finish
« on: August 23, 2011, 08:17:17 AM »
I recently went to a tournament where i needed to polish my infinite theory to play a comfortable position on the lane. But now i am having a really tough time getting the ball back to how it originally was when i bought it. I have done the 3 step (500,1000,1500) sanding technique. That is i sanded the ball with each of those three pads at four different positions (fingers up, fingers down, fingers to the right, fingers to the left). Next using a regular ole white rag made of cotton, i applied storms reacta shine to the surface of the ball.  before i polished it at the tournament, I use to play 16 out to 7 and the ball would have a very sharp yet powerful motion back at the pocket. Now i have to play over 12 out to 8 for the ball to touch the pocket. It still hits like a tank. But I need the stronger motion of its fresh out of the box finish on some tournament shots. Now here is my question. AM I MISSING SOMETHING? DO I NEED TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT IN ORDER TO GET THE BALL BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL COVERSTOCK?  I need some help.

Yes, the Storm/Rotogrip box finish of "1500 Polished" isn't actually what you are thinking. You need the Storm Step Two compound to achieve it.

The nearest I have been able to get to this box finish is 360 grit all four sides(30 seconds), then 500 grit all four sides(15 seconds), then the Step Two compound all four sides for 30 seconds. The ball will not end up as shiny as the box finish, but that process gives me very close to the same ball reaction.

Average "grit" on a PAI ball surface scanner is 5066 on a NIB shelf ball in my shop which is really close to 2 min of 500 , 1 min of 1000, 2 min polish in a Storm Surface Factory Pro

Use "IT" and BOWL UP A STORM!!

We've used this method at the pro-shop for a few years now and it's the best method out there to get Storm/Roto balls back to 1500 grit polish.  I've re-done my Hy-Road about 7 times with this, always comes back for me.  I also use a lot of pressure with the Step 2 to create heat, it makes it shinier and more of that OOB finish.

I used the 360, 500, step 2 process that you'll said. but the ball is still relatively week in comparison to how it use to be. I thought i might have done something wrong but I got the pro shop manager to do it for me, and even after he did the process, the ball still gave me the same motion.
