cell drill sheet FAQ's...
« on: January 29, 2008, 03:44:52 AM »
Q: Is it OK to drill into the engraved portion of the ball that indicates the location of the mass bias?
A: Drilling extra hole or thumb hole into the RG only ENHANCES the dynamics of the weight block.

Can anybody elaborate on this statement made in the assymetrical drilling guide included with The Cell? Thanks for any clarifications.....

This is similar to a article a year or so ago in the Ebonite Proshop Insider magazine describing weight holes drilling in the thumb positive quadrants typically used for a pattern called "Rev Leverage."  Essentially, weight holes drilled in this area change the shape of the weightblock and thus changing the RG values and sometimes the differentials making them react stronger.  And if you drill through the stamped mass bias location, you are drilling in the strongest location on the weightblock itself so you would make the ball stronger also.  Me personally I have never done this because if you ever plugged and redrilled the ball, you would lose your mass bias locator.  Hope it helps and you don't need to drill like this with the Cell, its strong enough.

... thanks for the reply, cause I was wondering if it would make it stronger. I feel the one I already have drilled is PLENTY strong at 4x4 pin-above ring, weight-hole about 2" inside VAL and about 1" above grip centerline....

... as a follow-up to the original question.... does this refer to drilling the thumbhole or the weight-hole exclusively into the RG?

Speaking on behalf of Roto4ever (cause he's working at the alley tonight), he says he is referring to both thumb hole and weight hole as it is his preference.
