Big Wes...
« on: May 06, 2008, 08:59:47 AM »
Saw on pba website big Wes is signing with Roto.  I'm shocked to be honest, he's been throwing C300 stuff for a long time.  Its a great pick up, he's an unbelievable talent

Samuel....thanks for the post.

I have to say....have not seen either in real life!

I use Columbia but don't know many around here who do!  I have a loved Wow Pearl and a just broken in Icon2(5 or 6 years).  Newer  stuff!

From this picture I see...

Pearly, but it IS just a picture

I have watched Wes throw the Cell and the Illusion. The Cell's wouldn't hit right, but they were both at probably 1000 and the lanes were burnt, so that's what I would expect to happen anyway. The Illusion looked good because it was polished and he was striking with that. He also had not bowled in about 3 weeks so that made a difference too.

Sorry to change the subject

""RANT ON""
but I had to vent after reading some of this post... As a bowler I want a clear cut answer on whether a ball is a solid or pearl, reactive or particle! If you go to the brunswick or ebonite/hammer/columbia/track websites YOU CAN'T TELL!!!!!

The only two major brands that give you the answer without guessing off a picture or searching the "fine" print, is storm and roto

**RANT OFF**

roto grip, congratulations on the new addition. I see bright things for both of you.

Along the lines of solid or pearl???

I can think of Smash/R from Brunswick, Action Max, this Resurgence....all suppossedly solids!  OK but they sure look like pearls!  OR pearly!

This Rival also.

Now I KNOW the Cell is a solid!!!  Black Widow and No Mercy too!  But the pearly looking Resurgence(I've never seen one in real life!)?

Pearly!  And yes ...big Wes made that look SO good!

Not to continue to keep off topic but have you even been to the Brunswick website, because it states plain as day for each ball if it is a pearl, solid, or hybrid. Not sure about ebonite/hammer/columbia/track.

Back on topic, congrats to RG for getting such a great talent and nice guy. He will definately bring more attention to the brand if everything matches up for him.

Don't even worry about the Resurgence being pearl, once you've seen one in person, you'll know it's dull as heck out of the box.

The Resurgence and the Rival are not pearl balls, period. Just because a ball is not one solid color does not mean it is a pearl. There are many solids that are multiple colors. I have both balls personally and I can tell you with 100% certainty they are not pearl coverstocks.

I have a Deuce...clearly solid...multiple colors.  I have a smash/r company says polished solid....I think pearl.

Never seen a Resurgence(except on TV)...I do believe you.

Darn Charlest I can use my Quest now that I put some Bean's on it and the SD-73! I used the SD-73 at the Pinnacle (Clarksville) and talking about movement off the spot, that ball was a beast at breakpoint! R/G have a new mid-priced ball coming this summer, that's from my R/G staffer friend and he tests a lot of stuff for them. I think Wes will have a lot of choices on what to throw and maybe a new ball is in the works for his game! Just my $.02, Bruce

Wes seemed to like the old San Antonio C300 stuff more than the current Ebolumbia balls so maybe it will be a better choice for him. Columbia probably wasn't too excited to see him go through qualifying and match play using Detours and Action Maxs.

I'm not that surprised. He's been with a different company in each of the past couple of years. 06-07 was Track, 07-08 was Columbia, and now 08-09 will be Roto. Good move by Roto too by the way. I think Wes' game might match up even better with roto than it did with columbia. If it does, Roto will sell many more balls than they ever did before because he'll make the show every week.

In the past, Wes changed brands because of the wishes the execs at Columbia/Track.  When Ebonite took over, they asked him to go back to Columbia.  Although it seems like he jumped ship alot, it wasn't his choice.

Wes can make anything look good and it's a huge win to have him on the RG staff next season.  I'm sad to see him leave C300, but that's the way it goes.
