Limited to 2 balls
« on: March 04, 2017, 07:44:54 AM »
Aresnal is limited it two balls. Not bowling on much more than a THS, medium down to dry lanes in leagues. No tournaments nothing super difficult or heavy.

2 hander, no thumb. Looking used on eBay. What should I get ? Not looking to spend a ton, just 2 solid balls, that I can. Have fun with bowling. Looking at the HP2 series... Wreck-it, wrecker, wreck-em and hectic. What would you pick (could be limited to that line or not)?

Thanks

Based on how you describe yourself, I would recommend something along the HP2 line or similar balls.  If you see other balls, you can compare the numbers on bowlingball.com.  Also based on your self description, I highly recommend your second ball be a plastic spare ball.

I've got a older weak urethane ball that I use for spares. I like it, it works well. I guess I should've put 3 ball aresnal with 1 ball as this one. Thoughts?

Looking at a combo between wrecker, wrecker, hectic and asylum (even though it's not in the HP2 line)

Ok.  With your specs and new info, I recommend a stronger HP3 equivalent pearl or hybrid for heavier oil, along with the HP2 pearl for normal conditions.  You can always sand the HP3 to 1000-4000 as you need it.

You said you're looking used on eBay. If you don't mind me asking what your price range would be

Do you like more of a controlled arc move or more snap type reactions?

I don't want to spend a ton.  I don't need the newest best balls.  I don't bowl tournaments just a league a week plus a fun bowl session with friends or family. I would prefer less than 100-125 a ball.  That's why I was looking on eBay.  Drilled.  I don't need a thumb hole that fits, as I bowl 2 handed.  So that's a bonus

I like both.  Either would do.

Honestly, it doesn't sound like you need any new balls.  If you are just bowling for one league and recreation, then keep the two you have and look for a 2-ball bag.  You don't have to have a 3-ball arsenal just because you have a 3-ball bag.  Make the 3 you have work for the league you bowl in.  If you really need a plastic ball for corner pins, the use a house ball.  Don't spend money just to look serious if you don't need to.  If the house changes the oil pattern and your balls don't work well then sand or polish your balls as you need to.  Changing the surface will have a much bigger effect than changing balls.

Don't rule out the bowling ball websites. You can end up getting a new ball cheaper and having a pro shop drill the two finger holes for you. Get prices from them on how much that would cost

I didn't think about that.  If I could get something in sale. What would you look at?  Specific balls? surfaces?  Type of oil?

Figured I'd have to go with a weaker ball based on more revs and 17 mph-ish.

Well for starters gotta know the cost of drilling. All the wreck line looks like they're going for $95 new on bowlinggball.com

Then the next question is how willing are you to go away from the storm roto grip family?

Cost of drilling is $70. One shop around me.  Is that a good price?

Willing to move brands.

I was looking at a urethane and a benchmark ball as a 2 ball combo. Thoughts?

$70?  For two finger holes?  I probably wouldn't go there. Usually the expense of a pro shop is this fitting. Which mainly has to do with the fingers to thumb fit. I'm sure there's more to it. I'm sure the pro shop guys around here can give further insight. But $70 for two finger wholes and grips seems high for me.

you may wanna look around to other pro shops. See if it's $70 for just the two fingers.

That's the one shop that's closest to me. It includes...
Drilling
Finger Tip Performance Ball - $74.95
  Includes:
   - Custom fit hand to new ball
   - Determine positive axis point for proper ball layouts
   - Choose proper layout and surface for new ball
   - Drill ball
   - Grips & slug
Drill a Basic Conventional Grip Ball - $29.95
  Includes:
   - Professionally fit your hand to the new ball
   - Drill Ball

There is another shop IDK the prices but it's 1:10 away.
