Currently using an old Black Brunswick Phantom in box condition to
play the 1st arrow swinging it anywhere from 5 to 3 boards as the back ends
stiffen. Very predictable reaction but carry is a problem.
Wood lanes light oil 32 foot pattern buffed to 36 feet.
Semi typical house shot. If you get too much angle outside the 10 board it's a wash out even for the heavier handed guys.


I'm looking for stronger hit (read carry) at the pocket.
I don't want to have to swing the ball a great deal more.

I'm thinking a shorter pin (2 inches or less) Sonic X Solid drilled about 4 x 4 ? If necessary I'll change the cover stock for more length.

Or do I need The orginal X ?

Any ideas would be great.
Bob Hanson recommended the Sonic X to me and I value Bobs opinion .

Z,
Roger has told me that the solid will be more versatile, and being polished, I would say the solid would work better, but he'll chime in soon too!

I was going to delete this becasue I just spoke to Roger on the phone. Great guy and very knowledgeable.

Original Sonic X drilled 5 x 5 was the opinion.

Off to order it.

Thanks Brian. When I described the shot and reaction I was getting plus the line I was playing to Roger he suggested a weaker drill like a 5 x 5.
Funny but Bob Hanson also said be careful about drilling it too weak.
And gave me a real life example of someone using a strong drilled X.

But I told Bob not every woman, just most of them have more revs than me.

Was also looking at a V2 Dry but with my rev challenged game that differential
was scaring me even drilled strong.

I'm thinking maybe 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 ...just so it's not too weak if you're concerned.  I always heard that from Roger,...you can always tame a ball, don't be afraid to drill and error on the strong side.....

Brian - That's what I'm hoping. More pop than the urethane for better carry without having to move too much deeper to create a possible over/under.

The beauty of the shot I'll be using it on is it's an old wood house 8 bowlers per pair and everyone else is playing 10 board and in.
THere is no real significant carry down.

The most I have ever moved with the urethane is 3 boards right on the approach.
And I'm just floating the urethane now up the back.

But ok I'm convinced I'm going to drill it 4 x 4 and can always work on the cover for an adjustment.

If you do get an X solid I'd love to see a review comparing it to the original X.
