Title: MUTANT CELL
Post by: Oldschool on September 10, 2009, 01:01:02 AM
Perhaps this will help those who belong to the Army of the SWORDLINE and wish to add to their bag of weapons in the honor of the KING in the Land of RG.

I wonder if this piece will actually be longer and less overall hook than the OG Cell since the RG and Diff numbers are less...

15lb ball   RG     Diff     Mass Bias

     CELL   2.52    .056      .018
   MUTANT   2.54    .047      .021

Looks like they tweeked the core, and a tweeked change to the cover.
Both Core and Cover retain the original labels Nucleus and Cytoplasmic except now they are Nucleus11 and CytoplasmicXL.

Same ball only meaner! love the original. Will probably add the Cousin to the bag.

Probably because the coverstock is stronger, they had to give the core a touch more length to keep it from burning up at your feet.  Just my assumption though, I know as much as you do about this ball at this point.

Yeah you're probably right.  I hope this thing is a midlane and backend beast on medium to heavy oil...

The Mass Bias is stronger. My guess is that a stronger cover is on the ball as well. One of the things that Mr. Boomershine discussed in his demo of the original Cell, was maintaining Diff. through the motion of the ball going down the lane. With this theory, less total diff. can actually be stronger, because of the shape of the weight block. The weight block looks to be elongated at the top corners, allowing the ball to have the same or more diff. in the middle part of the balls spin time. Although personally, I am a big advocate of looking at the numbers, the shape of the core in relation to spin time, is a huge factor in ball motion.

Makes sense.  If Roto-Grip would like to send me a test Mutant Cell I'd be more than happy to drill it up and post my findings.

Anyone else notice that this ball actually has higher MB and Diff rating in the 16Lb weight, whereas 15lb almost always has the highest ratings in every other ball?

According to my close friend who just completed the World Series, this ball is actually earlier than the original cell.  The ball hooks a ton but hooks earlier than the motion they like to see out there on tour.  A.K.A. your typical house bowler on a walled up shot that wants to see the ball hook should love this ball.
