Nationals....what oil can I expect and..what would you take?
« on: February 05, 2008, 06:38:41 PM »
Albuquerque is home and it's home of the nationals this year. The team I'm on bowls at 4:30pm on Saturday the 16th, and 7:30am on Sunday the 17th of Febuary. I've never, repeat, never, bowled in nationals before. So..what can I expect? What can I expect of the oil patterns at the time of day my team and friends are bowling? How early before start time should I get there? How long does the inspection of you bowling balls last? IN short....can anyone give me any advice?

And of course...from amongst the following bowling balls...what should I most probably take? I'd like to take only four but could take six if needed.

Epic Battle
Epic Odyssey
Epic Saga (my go to ball this year in league)
Mystic
Venus
Neptune
spare ball

You can expect a sport compliant condition.  Spares will be at a premium for every player of every skill level.

The first ball you should take is a spare ball.  Period.  It will be the most important ball in your bag.  As for the rest of your arsenal, take 3 roll/arc balls and one aggressive backend ball.  Vary the surfaces from 500/1000 to 4000/polished.

I believe check in is one hour prior to squad time.  If I remember correctly, you can start checking balls 1 1/2 to 2 hours prior to squad time.  But, I'm alittle fuzzy on that one.  Checking bowling balls doesn't take long at all unless you wait till the last minute when everybody is trying to get theirs done.
