Just got back from the WA state tourney in Spokane, and the strongest ball I took with me, a Track Mean Machine with green scotchbrite surface, did not cut it, even though it and my Mutant both do well on our local house shot, where I can swing the ball pretty easily as my preferred shot. No chance of that for me at this tournament do to heavier lane conditions than I am used to, and my up and in game is not that strong. Both of the Spokane houses had what seemed like heavy, long, flat oil, with weak backends. Everyone in our group struggled getting their ball to move, if it moved at all. Basically had to play straight up and point it a bit, at least until the 3rd game when you could get just a slight bit of movement, and I did well in every 3rd game. So, what Roto ball should I be looking at to try that will still turn the corner and do the job for me the next time I decide to try a tournament? Odyssey? Battle? A new future release? My specs are in my profile. Thanks.

SD-73 or an Odyssey, with your softer speed, lower track, and lower rev-rate either of these balls should fit nicely. Drill accordingly and keep box surface to start given your physical game makeup.

I would suggest the Epic Battle. The Epic Odyssey or SD-73 might work as they are a little stronger than the Meanie but not much, so, as I said, I would suggest the Epic Battle. If necessary you can take the surface down to 500 abralon no problem. That should solve your problem.

One more vote for the Battle, it's the best heavy oil ball out there.

Add me to the list of people who recommend a Battle. Mine really paid for itself in the last tournament I was in and I can't think of any heavy oil ball I would pick over this one. Some people say that it's not really a great ball if you like to swing it but that's what I do and it works for me

Thanks for all of the input. The Battle sounds like the consensus way to go. I also have a NIB Hammer Diesel Particle that I was thinking of getting drilled and using it for the heavy oil shot. Any thoughts on how it might compare to the Battle for this type of shot?
