need drilling advice on neptune
« on: July 02, 2008, 08:41:16 AM »
Well, I just bought a used neptune off from this site for $45 and it has just a few games on it, here is the link to the picture of the ball, http://s206.photobucket.com/albums/bb314/brunsdustin/?action=view¤t=june08011.jpg I have a number of balls that hook pretty good, I have a original hot rod drilled 5x5 pin right below ring, cg on top of the thumb and just to the right and a too hot that is drilled label pin above both fingers cg just a hair from center of grip. Well, I am wanting the neptune to go longer than my too hot(my too hot actually rolls pretty smooth), but still have some pop on the back when it gets really dry. Please let me know what you guys think and suggest, thanks

dont go with a weak drill on the neptune, out of the neptunes ive seen, the ones with weak drills dont work very well. Ones with stronger drills work well on drier lanes and hit better than the weaker drilled ones

I have my Neptune drilled pin over ring over the CG which nearly translates into a 5x5 layout for me.  In OOB finish with this layout it is a bit flippy and works well on light medium conditions.  In actuality it is only a few boards weaker than my Illusion is but a little less versatile.

Ok thanks for all your replies. My pap is 5 1/2 over and 1/2 inch or so. I was thinking maybe of putting the pin 5 1/2 from my pap and the cg out enough to have some side weight, but I was also thinking maybe of putting the pin over my ring 5 inches from my pap and the cg out to cause some side weight to make it push a little more, then it would recover on the backend a little better. Now since you guys said 6 inch to pap, would that be over my middle finger or under my middle finger, because under would not work because of my higher track. But right now I am leaning towards putting the pin at 5 1/2 - 5 3/4 from my pap above fingers and kick the cg out so there is some side weight. Let me know what you guys think of this

I'm in the process of redrilling my Neptune.. did have it with a longer pin but redoing it with a 1-2" pin for use on shorter oil patters as at present it hooks WAY too much!
