Roto Grip Sponsoring MMA Fighter
« on: June 06, 2009, 12:58:09 AM »
So Roto is going to be sponsoring a MMA fighter here is the press release.
http://rotogrip.com/bowling-news/story.asp?enewsid=4328&intl=False

What are your thoughts?  I like the idea but I am also a huge MMA fan.  I just don't want to see Roto get spread too thin.  I think they are normally right on the edge of the best marketing, does this hold true here?

I think this is great for RG...this is a great way to spread the word about their new apparel line, and get their name out in other areas

I don't think he is fighting in the UFC.  He is however training with Jeremy Horn who has some success in the UFC.

It will be interesting to see... I like the idea. I think they probably are starting smaller before going for a bigger name. Or this guy could be the next big thing we just haven't heard of him yet... Either way, good move I would say. I love it.

There are a few well known storm staff that are big fans of MMA. If I can get GSP to get out of the gym and have dinner with Doene or Roger, they would probably hand over there check books. I know a few people from GSP's early days that didn't take the chance and are kicking themselves.

Just to let you guys know...David fought on Saturday night and knocked out his opponent in the third round.  His record is now 5-0.  You may not have heard of him yet...but you will!

Group,

Thanks for the feedback, I really could use it.  I've had a few emails from customers with mixed emotions on it.  2 from our press release and an email on ballreviews I have not responded to yet.  The good and bad here is that a lot of people are big fans of MMA and it appears that some of our customers are against it and have refused to buy our products from this point forward due to principals.

David Castillo is local and the main reason we hooked up with him is because one of the kids that worked for me when I owned my shop is related to him.  I went to fight and checked him out.

I think the misconception from people is to what extent we are sponsoring him.  This is a really low level sponsorship equivalent to a small tournament where we donate 2 bowling balls to raffle.  The costs would be way outside my budget to sponsor any major name UFC fighters.  We just want an opportunity to promote our Alliance Apparel and attach it to the right demographics.  I'm always looking to try new things and see how they go.

We are also giving a ton of the new Alliance Apparel away in our upcoming Nomad Contest at rotogrip.com which starts a week from today.

David is a family man and we are equipping him with some new Roto Grip products so him and his family can enjoy their weekend bowling with the best products available.

If you haven't been there recently, today at rotogear.com they are getting all the new images loaded and ready for sale.

Have a great weekend!

Roger,

I 've got no problems with you guy giving him a low level sponsorship deal.

Heck, I'd take a low level deal myself.

Say 2 Nomad's 15# 2-3 pin.

LOL

Have a good summer.
