Horizon Solid vs Resurgence?
« on: October 07, 2007, 01:27:05 PM »
From the ball reaction chart on the roto website I wouldn't consider the Horizon Solid as an alternative to a Resurgence, but would like feedback. I'm looking for a low Rg symmetrical reactive heavy oiler.

Horizon Solid won't be a true oiler, more like a medium-heavy solid reactive with decent backend recovery and continuation...kind of like a Black Widow but less angular...a nice all-around ball that should work well on more trying, higher volume patterns...

Quite simply, it's not in the same class as the Resurgence (but I'm sure you already guessed that). Additionally, if I am correct in saying that you are looking for a quick-revving solid that will handle most longer and oilier patterns, without being "just" a flood ball, I would've suggested a 900 Global The Break or a Roto Epic Odyssey, but you specified that you wanted a symmetrical core...sorry to say, but there isn't much out there in terms of low RG symmetrical oil balls. I mean, there are some mid-high RG balls for medium-heavy, like a Hammer Anger or Storm's T-Road Solid, and then there's the Horizon Solid...but all of those offer that "in-between" look, and aren't quite the monsters of the oil-handling scene.

Also just thought of Brunswick's Fury, which might be another option too.

Honestly, though, what's the matter with asymmetricals? If you were open to them, you'd get to toss both the Break and the Odyssey into the picture, both of which I think are great balls for heavier oil...with the Resurgence being considered as well, I don't think you could go wrong.

Hope this helps.

I have the Resurgence and one of my Breaks at 1k, they are close in total strength of oil handling. The Break has more backend reaction in the backend of the lane, both rev up for the first 40 feet and make a big sweeping arc to the pocket The Break's move is sharper and carry is usually better from the Break.

My low game with the Break is 178 i have many 220 plus games with Break, i have had some good games with the resurgence but it is more of a conditional ball that is hard to swing and chase the oil line in with.

Btw i have one pin down Break and one pin over ring break that is still box at 4k, great 1-2 combo the pin up pushes farther and like it should is easier to move inside with.

I appreciate the responses. After 5 asyms and three different drillers, I've come to realize I'm simply one of those low-trackers for whom asyms are a waste of good money. I'm not going down that road anymore unless a manufacturer hands me a free one to prove to the world it can indeed be done

I often find a normal long oil night for a low rev low track lefty is similar to what righties consider a flood. I did figure Resurgence to be a better oiler, but throughout all the rave reviews, I keep hearing the slight condition specific theme. As for not posting this in Columbia forum... I'm equally after data on the Horizon, not just Resurgence
Many thanks for the replies.

I'm right there with you. Getting tired of Big B, but have been throwing only infernos since the original came out. I have a Special Agent that I love, but it's my pin up ball and won't work on the shot i'm seeing now.
