Sport Shot - Battle, SD-73, H. Solid, or Special Agent?
« on: December 10, 2006, 06:21:31 AM »
Currently, I am in the market for a ball that will perform well on a medium-heavy collegiate sport shot.  Having done well with Roto products in the past, I am highly considering another Roto ball...thing is, I don't know which to choose from!

Options to pick from include the Epic Battle (with some polish, of course), SD-73 Classic (with maybe a rolly layout and slight polish), the Horizon Solid, or just holding out for the Epic Odyssey.  Other balls I am considering include Storm's Special Agent.

Major factor = I want something that is strong and continuous, without being unpredictable at the breakpoint.  Versatility, and the ability to play through a tough pattern, is key!

And, by the way, I do know that the SD-73 Classic and the Odyssey have not been officially released.  So I don't expect a lot of comments about them...but if anyone has thrown one (more than likely the SD-73), would they care to share how it rolls?  Tyler Jensen almost won the Regional Players Invitational with one...

I'd lean towards the Horizon Solid.  It has several key specs that fit your needs.  Low RG, high diff, very strong solid resin and symmetrical.  The midlane read of this ball is extremely good.

Very strong ball that's controllable at the break.  I've settled on 4000grit Abralon for mine.  Box was a litle too much for most of the conditions I see.  For me, it's a better compliment to the Horizon pearl with that surface.

I'm interesting in hearing the reviews of the SD-73.  I'm excited about a very high flaring solid which will allow me weaker pins to battle some of the dry heads/mids with carrydown that I encounter.  I should be able to go 6-6.5" and still get 3-4" of flare.

I can't speak for anything other than the Epic Battle.  I'm positive if you drilled it for an early continous move that you'd love it.  Mine is out of box finish, med to med-heavy house shot.  I would keep the mb out near the val, put the pin about 4" and you should have a great ball that won't dive when it encounters dry.

BTW, out rev rate and speed are very similar.
