New Roto Grips and Info!!!
« on: December 07, 2007, 02:16:52 AM »
I didn't want the info to be lost in the other thread.  You guys should be hyped about the next releases. I know I am  Well here's the scoop.

The Cell:
Cover:  Cytoplasmic Solid Reactive (2000 grit Abralon)
RG (15): 2.52
Diff: .049
MB Diff: .018
Color: Turquoise/Navy/Black

Pluto:
Cover:  Sure Grip 2 Solid
RG (15): 2.61
Diff: .018
Color: Scarlet/Charcoal

Here's a quote from Hank Boomershine about the ball:
The development of the Cell has taken a year from the initial idea.  My intent was to design an asymmetrical part that had the benefits of fine tuning by moving the mass bias , but also the continuous motion that we often see from a symmetrical part.  The core itself started from a symmetrical drawing with a relatively equal rg values for the Y and Z axis.  From this point I started to change the shape to achieve a stronger intermediate differential between the Y and Z axis, but also maintaining the differential between the X and Y/Z axis' as well.  If you will notice that I pulled much of the mass from the center of the part maintaining the overall symmetrical shape of the core.  I realize that another manufacturer already claims to have a symmetrical asymmetrical core and that is not my intention.  My intention was to design an asymmetrical core with the characteristics of a symmetrical core.

The final product, the Nucleus core achieves the tech specs and the motion I was looking for.  It has a mass bias differential of (.018), which seems small compared to some of the other designs that are out there on the market.  It still has a 60 degree spin time of 5 seconds on the determinator, and I know it is due to the shape and not so much the actual intermediate differential.  The bottom line is we have created a core that is more forgivable at the break point and continuous down the lane.  When we tested with the guys on tour, the first comment I got from them was the same.  It is smoother through the transitions, and never quite hooking.  They both claimed that it did not push in the oil, but read it accordingly.  When it hit the dry it did not jerk off the dry but it rolled off the dry and continued, where some of the other balls would quit down the lane.  They were both excited and looking forward to having this in their arsenal on tour.  Well I know what you are thinking now, how does this benefit the average bowler?  We know the accuracy of the average bowler is less than the PBA tour players.  The data we have shows that the PBA players keep it in a 2" area at their target, and the really good amateur bowlers keep it in a 3" target area.  The average league bowler is somewhere around a 5" to 6" target area.  He's keeping it between the arrows somewhere.  This ball will give them the forgiveness when they miss a little left or right and eliminate the over and under reaction that we often see from the asymmetrical balls of today.

I realize I have been talking all about the core technology and its benefits, but the cover stock is also part of this whole reaction equation.  We took our Ultimate Vision solid reactive cover stock and analyzed the matrix under a microscope.  We discovered a few things about the length of the matrix fibers and also the porosity to oil absorption.  We altered a few things in the matrix and to increase strength and durability, but in doing so we created a cover stock that has increased surface friction.  This translates into more hook in the oil, but slower oil absorption rates and increased longevity of the cover stock.  I wish I could tell you more, but I cannot give the competition any of our secrets away.  The Cytoplasmic cover stock is the next step in cover stock technology and we look to branch off from there.”

I like the BIO-CELL-NUCLEUS theme they have going there.  But wait is Pluto supposed to be part of the planet line?  Is Roto giving some love to the fallen planet?

Sweeeeet!!!! Both sound like winners, and both color combos have some shelf appeal.

Too bad Pluto ain't a planet anymore...
