Need help with surface prep for a Silver Streak SE...

I've got a Silver Streak SE that I really liked when I first got, but now I barely use it. It's way too touchy downlane. Lots of over-under.

The ball, as I understand it, is a pearl-solid mix. I'm not accustomed to surface-prepping such a ball.

If I wanted to smooth this ball out, what would be the best way to do it? It's drilled pin above the bridge, CG in the palm, which for me makes it about a 4.5 x 4 drilling. It's currently in box finish, plus a smidge of polish. It got polished a little when I had a thumb hole plugged and redrilled last summer.

Any advice?

A solid/pearl combo is no different from any other.

Depending on how much over/under you're seeing (Are you sure you're playing the lanes correctly?), I'd start with either a hand application of a green Scotch-Brite pad, with a light roughing up to leave some shine and some hazing, OR if the over/under is extreme, I would sand it toroughly to 2000 grit with an Abralon pad.

With a hand application of the green pad (600 grit), you can take the ball in steps to hazing a higher and higher percentage of the surface until you get the reaction you want/need. Just be careful to note where you are so you can repeat the process and test each stage on a pattern similar to your league/tourney condition.

If you go to 2000 grit (should handle slightly more oil than the stock polish), the next step is 4000 grit, which should handle the same amount of oil as the stock polish but be much more even down the lane (slightly earlier and slightly less backend).

Thanks. I'm pretty sure I'm in the right place vis-a-vis playing the lanes, but this problem is popping up on multiple lines, speeds, etc.

Typically, I'll get a great look on two shots, miss target by literally just half a board at times and end up with a result at the pins that is completely out of scale compared to how badly I missed.

I've got two other balls in the Streak line (Winning Streak, which is an overseas Silver Streak Pearl, and Ultimate Streak, which is an overseas Silver Streak Particle), and I don't have nearly as much problems with them. It's something in that ball, specifically.

I'll try the Scotch-brite pads first. I've had experience doing that in the past.

That's odd as the SS pearl is all pearl whereas the SE is half solid and half pearl. I think the cores are the same. If one, the pearl, is more used, then the track area might be slightly duller? for a more even reaction.

This is where it gets really weird -- I get a more consistent look with my Winning Streak/SS Pearl, which is in box finish. I don't know how shiny a SS Pearl is out of the box, but a Winning Streak shines like a wet mirror.

Of course, my Winning Streak is also drilled pin-down, under the ring finger, making it about a 3x3 drilling for me. My SSSE is drilled to be more angular.

And yes, the cores are all identical.

I also have a Retro Resurrection, which appears to use the same core, and it's at about 1200 matte. Probably one of the most consistent balls I own.

That's why my issues with the SSSE are so illogical.
