Need help choosing a Roto ball...
« on: May 27, 2009, 12:26:12 PM »
So I am trying to finish building my lineup before heading out to junior gold. I have a big gap that I need some advice one what might fit there. I'm looking at the mars but I'm not sure. Line up looks like this:

Snap            Roll
                Cell

Cell P          Pluto
polished Cell
Mercury

                Ebo Tornado

I want something to be rollier than my mercury but about the same strength. I was looking at the grand illusion but i think it will be too much and I don't have time to wait for the new sword balls.

What brand is "Snap Roll"?  Is that your heavy oiler?

Sorry about that didn't post the way I intended it to... I have a huge gap between the Pluto which is drilled about the same as my Cell Pearl and is pretty much the same overall hook and my ebonite tornado which is drilled pin 1 in to my pap with the cg straight left of that so it is a really rolly really low oil ball. I am looking for something to cover that gap because it is about a 20 board gap.

i would recommend the neptune since its a pearl verison of the pluto, its going to give you length but not as much hook as the pluto, drill it a little weaker than your pluto then take it to 4000 and see what that does, it still not enough then polish it, that should work

I have the Mercury which is almost exactly the same ball drilled the same and it is far too weak. I need something with a lot more roll to it.

if the mercury is too weak then the neptune is defiantly for you, its stronger than the mercury but not as strong as the pluto, it should fill the gap fine

I'm going to have to disagree with you here. They have the same coverstock and the Mercury has the original orbiter core which is slightly higher flare. From everything I have done in research and comparing with friends who have the Neptune the Mercury is pretty much the same ball if not a tad bit stronger. I need something that is going to be a solid 7 boards strong and give me much more roll. In my hands pearls snap always. I polish my Mercury with particle polish to get a better read and smooth hook but it is still really jumpy. That is why I want to give something with at least a solid cover like the Mars a try.

I'd try an illusion (if you can find one), or a mars

The Mars is not a solid, it's a hybrid.

I have thrown a Neptune and a Mercury and the Neptune is a stronger ball. I also have a Mars drilled pin above the bridge with the polish knocked off by hand with 4000 and my Dad's Pluto (14lbs) pin below bridge oob. On a THS all three hook about the same amount, but I played with them on the Shark, Scorpion and Cheetah the other day and found the Pluto handled more oil, the Mars is really snappy and the Neptune (rico'd) is smooth as silk. You could easily drill a Neptune or Mars about the same or slightly stronger to fit in the gap
