Nomad Core
« on: August 12, 2009, 08:39:51 AM »
Is the core in the Nomad the same as the RSP ? I know that it is stated that the core is the same as the Silver Streak and that core look's like it could be in the RSP. Could a person tweak the cover of the RSP and get a similar look as the Nomad ? Thanks

The RSP had a modified version of the Rotary Core.

That's the thing....these new covers are SO awesome they say.  At least for highly viscous oil(new oils) handling ability.  Compared to old covers!

I mean all one has to do is throw any of the RS covers from Storm.....wow.

I am fairly out of the game but I still can't get over the cover on my Hot Rod Super Sport pearl!  WOW!  And that was quite a long time ago.

WHY NOT take these great old cores and wrap the new outer sheets available.

Bon Appetit!

I had a chance to compare my trusty original SS Pearl(pin down)
along side of my overseas SS pearl(pin up, thanks hank )
and the Nomad Pearl(test ball pin up).. I think it was on a
scorpion-type pattern but the Nomad is soooo much more
aggressive off the spot than the past covers.. I don't know
what they are doing out it Utah but keep it up!!  IMO,
Nomads are the same motion as the Silver Streaks just more
aggressive from the end of the pattern to the hole..
Thanks go out to Steve Richter for always letting me test
stuff.. too bad you have the 'girly' fingers otherwise I could
chime in on the Solid Nomad also

two ideas/points....

I know those SS pearls were an earlier version of the current "reactor" covers!

But they were so awesome!  And from watching good bowlers(haven't bowled much for awhile) I have been even more impressed with the new covers(at least from a performance perspective....durability?(don't know).

Anyway....they appear great!  Also the SS pearl cores were pretty weak compared to the Nomad/Silver Streak core.  Super new covers....powerful angular core....I can only imagine!  WOW!

If I were to take the cover of my RPS to a lower grit should I be able  to get the look of the Nomad ? Would 500 grit be to much ? Funds are tight as bark on a tree right now and all I can do is adjust the surface of balls right now. Thanks for the input.

In a word, no.  While depending on the conditions it may hook more, it will cause the ball to roll earlier and not react as strongly downlane and in the presence of friction.  This will create a totally different ball motion, but not necessarily a better one.

No, however Abralon finishes weren't common when your ball came out. My Silver Streak SE has worked well at 2000, and 4000 Abralon. It originally had a 1500 factory polish. You might also want to try the 500/4000 finishing process. The results could be better than the original factory finish depending on your style. Most Rotary core balls can be made quite a bit more angular with a little experimenting.

Thanks Dave. I'll look into that method. Is it something your common that a proshop guy would know how to do ? Is there a spot on this site which explains the method and I can relay it on to the person. I would like to try it, but I want it done the right way. Thank for all the help with this subject.

Yes, it is something the proshop guy would know how to do. Basically they take the ball to 500, then they shine it with 4000 using light pressure. This way you have smooth on top however the 500 grit is still there underneath - best of both worlds

The RS-P is a particle pearl and the Silver Streak SE is a solid/pearl hybrid but it should be possible to get more or less similar looks out of them. The biggest difference between them is that the RS-P has the core inverted. This usually results in a more skid flip move.

Thanks Dave for the information I will give it a try this week. I like the RSP and just wanted to see if I could take it to another level. I will send you a message to let you know how it worked out. Thank again. Carlos
