Sinister cover changes
« on: November 17, 2014, 07:24:18 AM »
I have my cover still at the 4k oob and it has seemed to have lost some of the pop on the back end. I am thinking about taking the cover down to 2k. Any other suggestions?

That would be good. It may be signs of the ball absorbing too much oil.

I clean the surface regularly, but it pushes to far, so I am going to make a cover change.

Why not refresh it with a 4000 first?  I usually "refresh" the undergrit after 20 games or so.

Metal Rules, you've stated 2 different issues with your Sinister in 2 posts within this thread:

1. Lost pop on back end
2. Pushes too far

Taking it to 2000, will not increase the pop on the back end but it will solve for pushing too far and will make it hook earlier.  It will be somewhat smoother and will hook more, but mostly sooner, not on the back end.

My suggestion is to put it in a revivor/detox unit and then have it resurfaced per Roto Grip's instructions:

500 Abralon firm on 4 sides for 30 seconds
1000 Abralon light on 4 sides for 10 seconds
4000 Abralon light on 4 sides for 5 seconds

I will clarify ---- manly pushes too far down the lane --- I do want it to pick up earlier. So the lack of pop on the back end is because it is to far down the lane before it gets into its roll.

2000 should do it then, make it read earlier and whatnot as long as you got the oil for it

After changing the cover, by using a scotch brite pad to take the shine off and give it some friction, it still goes too long before it starts to make its move. What else can I do? In other words it does not have the back end I am looking for.

The Sinister really needs to have the cover readjusted after EVERY league night.  It lane polishes quickly and can get squirty and lazy pretty quickly.  I have to take mine back to 3000 before every single set, and I refresh the cover every 3 to 4 sets by hitting it with 1000 first.  I've used mine a lot since it came out and oil saturation isn't a problem yet, keeping the cover at the right surface has been the issue.  Been fairly easy to do though, just keep the cover fresh and it will be just fine.  It reacts really good with more aggressive surfaces though, I've had it at 2000 before and ball motion has still been great, hasn't lost any hit or gotten pukey.

I bowl in two houses and have used my Sinister exclusively at one house. Mine gets cleaned after every 3 games, has about 60 games on it and has not had cover stock readjusted yet. Still had out of box appearance and reaction is starting to dwindle just from track in ball. I have hesitated adjusting as last 6 sets have been 700 plus. Maybe I got a good one this time. Know when I had the Lucid, I had to constantly adjust like Gizmo was stating. When I do adjust, I will probably to 3000.

Isn't the Sinister a hybrid? I'm surprised to hear that it gets lane shine so quickly.
