Nomad Solid vs Cell
« on: May 04, 2010, 07:30:20 AM »
In everyone's opinion, how close are the Nomad Solid and the Cell? I have a Cell that is dead and was thinking of replacing it with a Nomad Solid.

Thanks

Nomad solid is going to be hard pressed to replace a Cell, The Nomad has a weaker core and cover. You would have to put some surface on it and drill it strong and only then could it be able to cover for a Cell. Why not just get a new Cell? They are still available online.

Reaction shape wise, they're nothing alike. My Nomad is actually stronger for me on most house conditions due to the increase in energy retention, but I wouldn't replace a Cell with a Nomad. Get a Rogue Cell and take the cover down, that'd be like a Cell with a little more pop and a little stronger. That's about as close as you'll get.

How about a Mutant Cell?  Just tweak the cover to suit your needs.

Locke, thats an option, but I have 2 blank Nomad Solids in my garage that I swapped out for some other stuff, so it is more, do I want to pay for a ball, or just drill up a blank. I haven't thrown a Nomad yet, but for what I see, they do look good on Sport and PBA patterns. Knowing me I will go get another Cell, just looking for some other people's opinions.

Makes sense. The Nomads are good balls. I'm really torn between a Nomad and a Dark Star here. From what I have seen you could make a Nomad Solid look a lot like a Cell Pearl but I think the original Cell is just too archy for a Nomad to cover the spot. And they are great on sport, I have seen a few in my sport league just ripping it up.

for me the nomad solid has more backend reaction compared to a cell but know where as strong as the cell. I actually took my nomad down to 2000 abralon which helped get rid of the skip flip giving me more of a controlled arc. In my opinion the nomad solid works great on sport shots as long as they are not thick, the ball tends to be scared of heavy oil, with that in mind its great for med. lane conditions as it is specified to be used. Over all a great ball but not to replace a cell.

I wanted to pick up a cell myself for the same reason mine had died but i loved how it rolled and well as a mutant cell will be a tad bit stronger it just doesn't have the same roll. The rogue cell is more length and flip, mutant cell will be the next best thing.

Really? Not even close?  I didn't realize the were that different.  I guess I figured they'd roll similar just that the Mutant would be a tad stronger.  I guess I sould find a case of Cells and put them away since that ball is so great!

The Mutant Cell creates a LOT more length and angularity than the original Cell. I was caught off-guard by this as well, and the ball has been sitting in my basement waiting for the PBA Experience league where it should be very, very useful on the longer patterns.
