not much enthusiasm for the menace?
« on: October 25, 2015, 05:24:59 PM »
i've been going back and forth between getting the menace and the lock. i know that the lock is stronger overall but i'm not sure how much i want that. the menace seems like it might fit what i want better but there hasn't been that much conversation about online and i haven't seen anyone use one in person. i didn't buy a sinister but i've heard people say that if you kind of missed it at the bottom of your swing it wouldn't carry as well on heavier oiled lanes. has anyone tried the menace and if so did this seem to be a similar problem for it as well?

My menace is pretty strong. To be honest my dream big is perfect! They really got some quality stuff coming out of 900 g (storm)

billdozer, your post was the one that i recall saying that you had to get the sinister into a roll to carry well. did you layout your menace the same as your sinister? if i remember correctly when the surface on your sinister got shiny it wasn't as predictable or didn't score as well. between the two which do you tend to use more often? is there anything that you don't like about your menace?

I've got a couple of buddies that throw a Menace, they like it a lot. One shot 300/815 in his second set with it. The other guy I know likes the Menace a lot more than the Sinister he had

I did say that.  Im fine with it as it is very versatile always gets the job done. I like weaker assyms... Anything I can use for 3 games or more is awesome.

I laid out my menace to be be earlier and more angular... Sinister was late and arcy.

Great 1-2 punch!

I repeat the sinister is loads better than any of the defiants! And the crux.

The menace is just a true solid, nothing bad to say about either.  I think it's just the core shape and my game that is at fault...

I am a little different that Billdozer, while I was not a fan of the Crux's, I loved all of the Defiants except the Edge.  I was not a huge fan of the Sinister, while I did not hate it, we did not match up well most of the time.  I do have a Menace and for the first month, I wanted to throw it out the window, actually was very close to selling it.  Then a buddy told me to add some polish so I hit it with Storm Step 3.  This has changed my feelings on the Menace and it is now the first ball out of my bag most of the time.  I also have a Lock, but have not had much of a chance to throw it.

Once a ball rolls early, how can it be angular? How is the ball laid out and what are your bowling stats, especially tilt and axis rotation if you know them? I've seen comments like this in the past and it always confused me.

I see a lot of sites putting the Menace in the closeout category.

It's funny because a lot of people were upset when the Sinister was announced overseas. When it came to the U.S. it did poorly.

I thought both optimus were ugly. From the colors to the logo it just doesnt fit some of the stuff you see from Storm/Roto. The Menace I think does and surprised not to see more of it.

People can say what they want about looks, colors, names etc and how it doesn't matter only the ball and how it performs matters and they are half right. No different then cars or anything else you buy in life a lot of money goes into design and overall aesthetics.

With bowling balls there are so many options that if you have several of the same product to choose from across several brands (which people do) then a big factor will be the visual. Optimus probably lost some points in that category which lead to many making other choices.
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.
