saturn cover - ideas?
« on: February 26, 2007, 04:08:56 AM »
You guys that have the saturn, any ideas on what cover finish works best for a THS?? It says the OOB is 800 machine sanded, might a bit of olish be in order for my slower speed stroke shot??  any thoughts or impressins on the saturn are greatly appreciated.  doug

I don't have slower speeds and I use mine in oob it gets down the lane well and has a very good back end great carry just can't beat this ball for the price, I know a lot of bowlers have used polish on theirs and have really like results, I would suggest doing a search on Saturn on this website and read reviews also Roto Grip.com is very helpful if you have a specific question and they answer quickly great company, hope this helps somewhat

I bowl on wood lanes and they are usually to the drier side.I took mine to 2000 abralon and polished with storm xtra shine. The backend on this ball is amazing. It is A great idea and one I thnk you would like.

The slower speed bowlers will appreciate this ball more with some polish (medium shine). It will be more angular, and should hit harder. If you don't like it, you can always take it back to the box finish or somewhere in between.

so OOB is fairly dull I take it??  the picture of it looks pretty shiny but I now 800 grit sanded isnt shiny.

Shouldn't worry about the cover til you throw it .... (honestly)
Everybody's oil pattern  and release characteristics can be so different.

If 800 grit (factory finish) is too early, I'd try 1500 grit next, then 4000 grit. If those don't work for you, I'd suggest going back to 800 grit Plus light polish. Then add more polish and/or finer sanding grits, as needed, in TESTED steps.

I finaly decided to just trust mine, shot my first 700 in 2 years, OOB. I throw around 15 to 16 mph, best when I play more like a stroker than a tweener.
drill pattern looks like this. first game 267. this ball is smooth and predictable. I wouldnt change it at all.

As charlest stated try it first before you change it. should you decide to adjust it the sky is the limit I've had mine at just about all combos and they all work the Saturn is extremly versitile.
