Title: Odyssey or Special Agent?
Post by: nospareball on May 18, 2007, 05:37:50 AM
Allstarbowling has a special going for X-outs on these balls, so i was going to pick one up.  But which one?

Right now I have a RX-S ping right of ring, cg close to grip center, polished up.  The ball goes long and makes a big move to the pocket.  The problem is that it has trouble on longer or higher volume patterns, and will get squirrelly.  So I'm looking for something to put above the RX-S.

I'm around 275rpms, 17mph, and like to play the middle of the lane.  Usually 20 at the arrows out to 8 or so.  PAP is 5 3/4" over 1/2" up.

If are a straighter player, or tweener, Odyssey, if have
more revs, Special Agent. The core of the Odyssey matches up better
with my game. They both have Storm coverstocks. My #1 ball at the
Nationals this year was the Odyssey.

That's sort of what I was wondering, and why I asked.  What is the difference in reaction on these two balls?

Is the coverstock the same?  Or just poured by the same company?

Odyssey. Great ball. Cover easily fine tuned. Looks good. Great company. Hits hard and carries well. Great for playing the middle part of the lane on THS, can handle heavier oil conditions with an outside line, assuming normal revs. If you're reved challenged as I am..it works great period.

The Odyssey has the potential to roll much hareder on the backend.  The Special is, from what I've seen, a very even rolling ball.  I kind of agree and disagree with what thirtyclean said.  On one hand, the Special seems to be more predictable and less jumpy for those playing inside with a great ammount of hand, yet I have always been one to feel as though stuff that is cleaner and more angular is better from inside than even rolling stuff.  When you get an even rolling ball, it tends to back up a bit when covering a lot of boards.

My recomendation, is that for those that are playing on more difficult shots, that are looking for a versitile piece, choose the Special.  Those that are looking to kick the ten out on a typical house shot, the Odyssey is the better choice.  The odyssey is also a strong asym, meaning that one can get a wider variety of reactions out of different layouts.
