Odyssey vs Cell
« on: January 31, 2008, 01:06:04 PM »
I wasn't a big fan of the Odyssey when I had it.  Hook-set is the reaction I got with it, and it didn't move all the much more than my other stuff even on heavier patterns.  With all of this great stuff I've been hearing about the Cell what makes it a hit and the Odyssey hit or miss with most people?

i love the odyssey .I have 2 a 15 and a 16. When i first got my cell at oob it didnt impress me at all. The odyssey was just the opposite. From say one i loved the odyssey . For me the odyssey has a more predictable roll and more backend. the cel seems to hit harder ,but i think the odyssey does have more overall hook on the right shot. My 15 pound odyssey and my cell are at 400 and the cell at that surface does handle more oil then the odyssey.imho if you didnt like the odyssey, dont know why, or what it did or didnt do for you,The cell is going to take some getting used too. with the right surface and drill might be a great ball in the right persons hand. Its deffinantly an oiler at the 400, 2000 was very suspect for me.

my odyssey was anything but hook set. one is drilled pin under bridge, the other is drilled pin under ring and they both have good continuation thru the deck. i am a low speed low rev player that is more comfortable playing inside than up the boards.

quote:
I had an Odyssey and I now have a Cell, both ball's have the same drill (Pin under Middle finger and Mb placed 60 degree's from PAP) & surface prep, my Odyssey did as you say, there were times it's hook-set roll was great but for the most part, it refused to continue through the pin deck, I threw my Cell last night for the first time and right away I saw a Noticable difference, this ball wants to turn till it hits the cushion at the ball return, the only quit is when this ball starts encountering friction early but that's true of any big oil ball. On medium 38 feet oil, I was able to stand 30 and play 17 at the arrows and out to about 7 and there was no limit from where this ball could recover from, a friend refused to bowl me for cash citing that I had an un-fair advantage over him with the Cell, Pocket hit's and Off-hits carried, normally I can flatten-out my hand and go for a 10 pin with a big oil ball, last night was not the case, any 10 pin I left was cleanly hooked by the Cell and I used another ball for the corner's!

That sounds promising.  The Odyssey was a big disappointment for me.  The hook-set roll might work for some guys but I could never get lined up the way I wanted to.  I was always waiting for continuation, but it would stop hooking mid transition it seemed.  I could occasionally get it to turn the corner nice, but I had to put a lot of tilt on it otherwise it would stand up way too quick in the midlane.

My shop has the Cell for $180, about the price of mid range balls like the Horizon.  I may have to blow some tax return money and give it a try.
