epic battle,gonna keep plugging
« on: September 07, 2006, 11:26:14 AM »
I am not going to give up on this ball . It hits too hard and carries too well.Having said that,I just took the surface down to 500 trying to find some more bite. went to league wed. and the shot was as usual. Standing 20 pointing up 10. I was reaLLy hoping the ball would allow me to open up the lanes with this surface change, but i was wrong.
I got to league late and wasnt even going to shoot the battle, but when the passion was skating from where i was trying to play I thought this would be ideal for me to see what the surface change would do. I thru this ball up 10 and it stayed on 10 for 60 feet. I mean no movement zip dity nada nothing. Thru it 3 times and put it away. The only time it has really shined for me was polished on a med. shot. The dull finish for me is doing nothing. It never remotely tries to move to the pocket.
After league I shot some more games and what i realized is that if i stay behind it and dont try to turn it it rolls up nicely. Holding the ball palm under ball with fingers spread and just roll it thru the target then it turns. Other people have thrown my ball and they get the revs on it throw it out and it comes back like a rocket. If i throw it out it stays out. Are particle balls meant only for revers? Is that the only way to get performance out of one of the high end particle balls . I know the post on particle balls 101.I am going to polish ot again ,at least then i know where i can work with it.

Sounds exactly like my experience with the Mercury and now the Venus. Slow, smooth and up the back is the only thing that works. Feels like rolling a marshmallow, but carry is great.

toomanytenpins,

In your profile "med. speed low rev low track player"  so yes you will get more reaction staying more under the ball.  I think with any ball you are going to get more reaction coming up the back especially if playing straighter.  You'll cut down on the chicken winging and pulling shots.  Stay under it trust it.

scott you are exactly right especially when the lanes are oilier. I can play on drier shots and it makes me think i am throwing the ball right ,but in oil I think i am finally starting to see the difference in hand positions and when to use which. Actually though ,should it matter. I know i get good reaction when the lanes are on the lighter side of medium when i twist under the ball, but that doesnt work at all when there is oil, I should probably be behind the ball all the time ,gonna try it this weekend.

I'd agree toomanytenpins.  Practice staying under it more.  It's one of my issues also.  You are not alone.
