ball suggestion
« on: August 02, 2003, 08:54:49 AM »
I am posting here roto and misc  I am needing some type of ball suggestion from storm or rotogrip.  i am a 18 year old bowler bout 18-19mph  with above average revs even if i try to come up the back of the ball as much as possible.  i am having trouble with flying backends.  I have all three of the deuce and reloaded with pins above ring finger and cg and mb kicked out to the right with balnce holes.  original x with pin right and stacked.  epp with pin above and everything kickd out  core power lrg drilled pin 1" above pap with cg and mb kicked left to about 8:00 and a thunder flash 1" pin pin and cg in palm.  i am needing a suggestion on a ball and a drilling to tame backends because even the lrg has more of a tendency to hook at the end even with the way its drilled thanks in advance for your help

Sounds like the Sonic X Pearl is just what the Dr ordered.

You should post in the drillings forum and see what type of recommendations you might get on layout. If everything is going long and snapping, Go to lower flaring balls and or drills. Sonic X or pearl and Ultra Hot comes to mind. Depending on pap you could try putting pin under the fingers or go with a shorter drill to induce roll characteristics.

For over reactive backends a good drilling is placing the pin closer to the PAP.

However u must be cautious because if u r a high track player u can roll over the fingers.

You said that you want either Storm or Rotogrip..HMMMMMM.......Also with a tame drilling that will not pop on dry backends..Well my friend I would try a Hot Wire and drill it pin axis. The coverstock of the ball alone is going to tame the backends and the drilling should give you and even arc on the backends regardless of the severity of the backs.

I think you had the right idea with the LRG, but that ball is still very agressive.  Like it was said above, go with a Sonic X, but try a 0-2" pin to pap.  The ball will naturally get down the lane, but want to roll right out of the oil and lay off on the backend.  This will allow you to play down the boards with a weaker ball, but still have plenty of hit.

Thanks,
