Epic Quest
« on: December 21, 2007, 05:16:18 PM »
I came upon an Epic Quest today.  I haven't got to throw it yet, that will probably happen tomorrow.

Layout is:

--*--
-O-O-

--Omb-

The ball doesn't have alot of games on it, maybe 50.  I hit it with the diamond wheels on the Haus, then 500-1000-2000 abralon pads.  I'm very interested it what this ball is going to roll like.

Don't know when I get to toss this.  The center didn't oil today, so I didn't even try to use it.  I used my Crimson Phantom today if that tells you how dry they were.

Surprised you drilled the Quest after not really liking the Odyssey. Hope this work out better for you.

Well, I like the Battle very much.  One bad match up won't make me stop throwing Roto.  I have the Mystic and the Horizon Solid was a very good ball too.

I'm 5-1-1 for like and dislike of Rotos.

Likes:
Battle, Horizon Solid, Mystic, Oracle Vision, Sonic X pearl.

Dislike:
Odyssey

No opinion:
Pure Fuel, I didn't keep it long enough to pass a proper judgement.

Ah that's right I forgot about the Battle. I think Roto probably has the best mid price lineup out there. The Horizon line is awesome.

arcy from the particle load not as much backend for me as the 2 different battles i have had, but i have 3 odyssey's and love them all so go figure.

I can use it all the time but the problem is i seem to leave alot of 8's and 9's with the quest, it left me a solid 8 a month or so ago to lose the game and totals. But the shot was great and it just hit too hard, not weak hitting by any means probably just too powerful of a ball.

I have a 3.5 inch pin battle just sitting at my office staring at me when i walk by it, pin up for me on the battle produces huge backend with the mb in the flip position. I might drill it when i move houses in month but probably will never need it with the cell and odyssey's and other assortment of stuff i have.

Well, I finally got to toss this orb today.

I think I am finally figuring out this aggressive assy core thing.

The ball:
pin is 5 1/2" from my axis
75* layout
2000 abralon

Condition:
Heavy oil house shot, oiled at 8am, lots of open play.
The backends were pretty tight.

I started looking at 8, hand on the side of the ball.  I was able to get to the pocket consistently but carry was marginal.  I made a change mid game to a more up the back release to get the ball to read alittle earlier.  It was better but not great.  I shot 246.

I moved out in game 2 to 6 board.  Hand on the side, with my pinky extended.  The ball gave me an earlier read with a very hard arc and continuation.  Carry improved, but still wasn't exceptional.  I pulled my pinky in to slightly change my tilt and then my carry become exceptional.  I moved in one frame to play a deep line, leaving myself a makeable spare and shot another 24something.

I was able to get about 2 1/2" of flare out of a 5 1/2" pin to pap.  For the time being I am impressed and it may make into my bag for the Air Force team tryouts that I'm leaving for on Saturday.  I'm gonna throw it some more tomorrow, hopefully on some fresher backends to see what it does.  In comparison with my Anger, the ball motion is quite different but the overall hook is about a board more with my Anger.
