I have what was supposed to be a pro pin Horizon but it turns out to be a x-blem with a 8 1/2" pin. I'm planning to invert the core and drill as if it has a 5" pin. Has anybody thrown an inverted Horizon, and how did it react?

A quick gander at your profile shows that you have a bunch of Brunswick equipment. A look at the Brunswick forum here will reveal more than a handful of posts relating to the "awesome" quality control of their products.

All companies have blems. Some sell them to e-tailers, some don't.

Is that the same as using an "anti-pin" on the opposite side from the "real pin"?

Yeah thats the anti pin. DP3 drilled up an original silver streak blem like this. He hasn't suffered any loss of reaction, matter of factly half the time he complains it hooks too much. Shoot him a PM because I am not sure how its done, either that or wait for Shelly to post on this one, I know she has posted how to do it b4.

Cool, I asked because I have a RG Rush drilled like that and it rolls great..

Just wasn't sure what the "inverted core" meant..

Just put the cg in the middle of your grip and put the pin over the fingers

I did a Horizon Solid inverted. I loved it. The only drawback for me was that my high track caused some flare over the fingers. But it rolled like a champ and hit great.

Doing it is a piece of cake. Just put one end of your quarterscale on the pin, the other end is the location of the new pin. My concern is with the core. If you flip a multi-density core, you can get some interesting reactions.

I guess the Horizon Solid info is a good recommendation. Rotomike, what was the the new pin position in relation to your grip? Was it in a pin safe zone? I don't think inverting the core alone caused the flare over the fingers.

I drilled it in a "safe" area but I did put a very early layout in the ball. The core inversion pulled the bowtie down a bit further than I had thought. I loved the ball though.

I passed it on to a fellow bowler a while ago. That was my fourth Horizon Solid.

Hmmph.

Yes, flipping it over and using the anti-pin works just fine. Plenty of balls have been releases with basically the core inverted from some other ball. Storm has done that with their FE2 core on a few occasions. You can measure 13.5" from the pin (through the CG or not doesn't really matter), mark that spot, use it for laying the ball out like you would the regular pin.

But first, confirm the CG location and top weight.

I never thought of using the quarter scale like that but there's no reason that wouldn't work.

I bought a RSX that was a blem that had the pin basically on the bottom, so I did the same thing with the quarter scale and the ball rolls amazing! It's the same thing Storm did with the Spit Fire and the Fired Up, they inverted the weight block in the Spit Fire! Let us know how it rolls! The RotoGrip #1 fan/Ricky Woods came to the center and we had a practice session and I showed him my RSX pearl ball that had the pin on the bottom. He couldn't beleive the pearl, because he has a bunch of RSX's and I think he was jealous! Thanks, Bruce
