Anyone had any luck with polishing the Disturbed?

I polished my Disturbed with excellent results: All of the characteristics one would expect from a pearlized version of the same ball/core combination. First effort was to polish the 2000-grit factory finish with Valentino's Snake Oil (a non-abrasive polish). Good results except the ball would skid on substantial carry down. Next, I started at 500-grit, then light pressure 1000-grit, then moderate Snake Oil. This is the polished surface I currently use on my Disturbed and I'm very satisfied with it's ability to get down the lane, yet read the end of the pattern soon enough face up into the pocket well. The ball hits hard and continues through the pocket well. It reads the oil-to-dry transition well without over-reacting when it sees the dry. The out-of-the-box surface was a little too strong for many of the house conditions I encounter while the polished surface matches up very well.

Your Hyroad Pearl and Disturbed will not react the same: Different core dynamics, different shot shape, with the Hyroad Pearl featuring a high RG core while the Disturbed's lower RG wants to read the lane sooner. Yes, there could be more overlap in shot shape when comparing the Nano Pearl to the polished Disturbed (assuming similar layouts).

ryguy119, This discussion is getting far away from your initial question. You'd be better off consulting with a good pro shop and/or very knowledgeable bowlers in your area. Your Disturbed, with its out of the box finish, is an excellent ball for medium to heavy lane conditions. After learning what else you have in the bag, you are in danger of turning a versatile bag into one that is too specifically aimed at dry to medium conditions. Also, a 4000-grit, then polished surface is much different than a moderately polished surface on top of a 500-grit/1000-grit underlying surface. You're in danger of turning an excellent mid-priced ball into an expensive spare ball. End of my input. Bowl well and score even better!

I am taking ther Disturbed to practice Monday. My proshop guy and me are going to throw some games so he can help me out with this ball. Too many people love this ball for me not to give it a try polished. I'm thinking about taking my Oath from 2000 polished back to its original 2000 abralon out of box finish. That could be my heavy oil ball and maybe the Disturbed at 2000 polish will be what I am looking for. If 2000 polish doesn't work I will go up to 3000 or maybe 4000. After that, ball goes on ball rack at bowling center.

Basically switch surfaces between the Oath and my Disturbed. If my Oath doesn't give me enough on oil I was thinking about a IQ Solid. It would compliment my IQ TOUR PEARL really well.

If you are looking for a heavy oil ball get a HYPER CELL

Not sure if you folks knew this but the Deranged is the exact same thing as a polished Disturbed.  The only things that are different are that the Disturbed has a 66MH coverstock and 2000-grit Abralon solid finish, whereas the Deranged has a 61MH coverstock and a 1500-grit pearl finish.

I throw the Deranged as my current go to ball and I absolutely love the thing.  If, for whatever reason, you aren't having any success polishing up your Disturbed then I would highly recommend checking out the Deranged.
