« on: September 24, 2006, 08:27:40 AM »
I am curious . I have a battle drilled pin under ring with mb kicked slightly right of thumb without a weight hole. would adding a weight holw to this ball give me the back end that i am missing.

Mines is weird. I can't swing it out straight up is best on it.

I put a weight hole in mines and it flipped more.

So maybe... I'm gonna play with my cover a little bit.

prophet a few things i have learned about this ball are,1 that you have to have oil,2,you will probably never have enough hand to swing this ball if you cant already,3; this ball is best ,even great, because it will not overreact on the line you are striking on,and 4; this being a heavy oil ball doesn't mean it is a hook monster it is just the opposite. It is ideally suited to play about 5 boards where there is oil . It will recover from 12 to 17 ,but its not designed to play inside out. down and in is where its king . Took me a while to learn that.Unless you have a ton of revs.
I was bowling yesterday and tried to use it it never bit, not a wrinkle. And this was a freshly oiled shot. Picked up my epic, same thing. I went thru all my balls on this freshly oiled shot and ended up using my polished power groove and my polished passion. Finally I know and appreciate what heavy oil balls are meant for.
There was oil yes ,but the amount necessary to use the battle you may never see. If it doesn't move its 5 to 7 boards put it away its burning up and go to something weaker. If you really just want to use it you will have to polish it to use it on anything other than a considerably long or well concentrated pattern. I ended up shooting pretty good with the passion.
To justify my point further,I went to league after the tourney, fresh shot .Picked up the battle and not a wrinkle, went to the epic and still nothing.then i picked up my overtime and then to the passion .I used the passion cause even though there was oil there wasn't enough for the other balls. they were just burning up. shot 677 which for me is great. shot well all day yesterday in fact. The basic reason was i stopped trying to make my heavy oil balls be hook monsters and used the equipment suited for the condition.
I have been knocking balls for some time and now I think I can honestly say i was dead wrong. The battle is a great ball ,but for a this you might consider 2000 grit with polish, or maybe a saturn or horizon. I have found that the biggest hooking balls are polished where you have short oil and some backend. heavy oilers are not meant to hook a ton they are meant to give you some reaction where weaker balls wont. then the rest is up to you.

Yeah I know. I was epecting it to flip hard but I learned it was a down and in ball. It'll work for me because all the shots out here in Long Island are like that.

I agree with Tenpins explanation.  My Battle is drilled pin under, MB strong and I cannot swing it like My Epic with the pin next to my ring finger.  I too may never find an oil pattern suited for this ball as it rolls so heavy that is needs the oil to keep it from burning up.  No matter how skip/flippy you drill this ball, it will not have the backend of a ball like a Paradigm.  Drill this ball and use it for what it was intended for, heavy oil.  If you wanted backend, drill up a Horizon or the new Epic Saga.

I polished my Epic Battle and WOW its great now.

I was considering getting another one drilled stronger and keepin' this one polished and use it like a pearl ball.

yeah i had the same reaction when i polished mine. I just wish i could find a piece i could use on heavier shots that hit and reacted like this thing does polished on lighter shots, I think i am gonna polish it before league tonight.

this isnt an inside ball take my advice. Up the boards is where this ball shines . In my experience if you have to move right put it away and grab something weaker. If you are a swinger say 25 out to 10 look elsewhere cause you will be dissapointed, but standing 17 and up 10 to 7 if there is oil this ball is money.

TooMany.. the Battle is IMO very versatile.  For players with less revs playing up the boards is gona put the ball in its element, giving great drive into the pins.  For players with more revs the ball is still strong off the dry, and even quite sharp when polished.

On long oil patterns where the inside line IS the line; the battle is quite awesome, giving good traction throughout the length of the pattern and can really open it up.

i have never been able to play inside with my battle where the oil is . I have played it as tight as standing 25 and playing it up 17 at the arrows. It never turns to face the pocket. It works well from the outside in with the oil line and thats the only way I can play this ball. No room for error no area and for me, absolutely no adjustment. Could be me , but i really hate the idea of having a ball as one deminsional as this ball is. I used it sunday and as the lanes broke down i couldnt move left . Had to stay where i was and try to thro harder, which is really bad for me. picked up my epic and it wouldnt even wrinkle. All i needed was a board or two of area, but i didnt have it.
