Pro CG Cell is here!
« on: April 24, 2008, 10:32:17 AM »
Hey everyone, www.BowlingBall.com sure did a great job on my eBay transaction with them! I requested 2.5oz. top weight or lower, and they ship a 2.34oz top weight Cell to me!

Here's a pic of the Pin-CG-MB line..
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c288/TheOne9110/CELL.jpg

I'm drilling it up.. I don't know when.. But the layout decision is made. (thanks to the help of Beans/Roto staff out there with him!)

Layout will be CG on PAP, pin 45* towards fingers, 3" deep weight hole (to keep it legal).. MBNOMADDAH.

I can't wait! I'm going to post back with my results. Again, no idea when i'm drilling it, though! Haha.

I am likewise confused.  Why in the world would you not be concerned with the placement of the mass bias on an asymmetrical ball?

He must think it's one of those wimpy asymmetric cores from Lane #1.  Those didn't/don't have enough MB differential to really matter.  Hell, Tropical Storms spin up faster, and they aren't even marketed as asymmetrical.

Well, he said he talked to Beans, maybe it's a Lane 1 thing.

I agree, you don't drill a quick-spinning, strong asymmetric ball without considering the MB.  Maybe, maybe if the pin, CG, and MB were inline, you could get away with it.  Definitely not when the CG is that far off the pin-MB line.

I can't believe someone from Rotogrip suggested that MBNOMADDAH.

I'm a little confused also...if im picturing that layout correctly, it will end up putting the MB at about 0 degrees (or even 315 degrees) in relation to you PAP...i mean i guess it all depends on what you are looking for, but that wouldnt be my first choice for the cell

Fasttracker,

Love the concept!  Please let me know how the ball reacts for you.  Very exciting ball and it never hurts to get exotic with the layouts.  If you don't try anything different, how do you know what works and what could work better?

Well, guys, here's even a quote from the Roto VP ^^..

I don't know much more to say.. I say.. Don't worry about it. I've done this before, and this layout idea I first used on my Track Inertia (layout was also recommended by Beans).. Take a quick look..

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c288/TheOne9110/100_0893.jpg (that's Inertia one and two.. The right one is the one with this type layout.. All the pin-CG-MB are taped up)

Do not fear, fellow BR users. Haha.

BTW, I kinda knew saying "MBNOMADDAH" would rattle a lot of cages

BTW2, when I used this layout on my low-load particle covered Inertia, it was smooth as silk.. The Cell will be that, but I bet a hundred times better!

I am insanely curious...just how smooth are we talking here?  CG on PAP, so you'll be drilling into the CG basically?  And at that point the MB is miles away from anything, ever.  What a neat idea.  I sort of want to try it

I have found that with Roto Grip equipment you can make huge changes to your reaction with little tweaks. Thats why I go with lowest top weights and long pins. Gives me some great options.

I'm talking super smooth. This is such a smooth rolling layout. I think I may have a vid of my Inertia on my YouTube account somewhere.. Let me check....

Crap. I don't have it anymore. I could've sworn I did.

Oh well, lol. But, with the Cell, it will be super smooth, but a great reaction. I remember how my Inertia moved, and I also remember how it moved when I polished it. At a duller surface, it was really smooth from the oil and off the dry, and when I polished it, the movement was closer to a skid/flip. I didn't like this layout at first because I used to hate when balls didn't hook a lot, but now, with my current style and how I play the lanes, the smoother, the better!

That is a beautiful thing to hear.  Being a straighter guy myself, I hate big backend reactions, especially on my polished/pearly stuff.  I think I may try this with my next ball *drools*

If you put the CG on you PAP with an out of line mass bias like that all the ball is going to do is roll out.  That is going to put the MB around 2 inches beyond your Vertical Axis Line.  That ball will start rolling when it hits the arrows.

Yes, this is a really good layout for a ball you want to go straighter with. I would not plan on playing in direct dry with this layout, though. It is still an early rolling layout, so it's not best for playing in the direct dry part of the lane.. But, it is great playing in the oil, and it also has a great transition from oil-dry.

Also, remember what I said about my Inertia after I polished it. It is a particle cover, but when I polished it, the motion became more skid/flip, and it covered a good amount of area. If I played it in the oil, though, it sure did skid!! Lol.

I'm not afraid to put this layout on the Cell at all. I'm actually very anxious to!
