Problems matching up with the Cell Pearl
« on: October 24, 2008, 07:42:18 AM »
I recently bought a Cell pearl and drilled it with the 4 x 4 layout with a 1 1/2 pin buffer.  This is the same layout that I have on my original Cell.  My intent was to be able to open up with the Cell and then when the lanes dried up too much or when the pattern was shorter go to Cell Pearl.

The problem that I have so far is that the Pearl is exibiting too much over / under for me.  I have no forgiveness with my release(my ball speed is typically 16 to 16.5 mph at the pins, 45 deg axis rotation, 10 deg axis tilt).

I tried knocking a little of the polish off with a white scotch brite pad, but now it seems to read too early.  My next step is too go from 1500 grit and polish surface to maybe 1000 grit and polish surface.  Does anyone have any other suggestion?
Thanks

4 x 4 stacked layouts can give you over/under. I would suggest a CG layout on the pearl, maybe with the pin over the bridge. =:^D

It's the 1 1/2 inch pin buffer that's making it so over/under. That buffer basically sets you up a flip leverage drilling and makes it sideways off the spot. A 2 1/2 - 3 inch buffer will make the ball much more predictable yet still strong.

I too experienced the over/under on my 4x4 drilled CP with a 2.5 " pin Buffer. I bowl on a second shift league. On a fresh house shot with a duller cover, I have experienced great continuation with no over under. I would first try 1000 grit with polish and then maybe 4000 or 2000 grit. Good luck

Thanks for all the replies so far....
I mis-stated the pin buffer on my layout.  It is a 4 x 4 layout but the pin buffer is between 2 1/4 and 2 1/2 inches.

Over the weekend I tried changing the surface from 1500 grit and polish to 1000 grit and polish.  That definitely smoothed out the reaction.
It is getting closer to what I wanted to see.  I will keep tweaking the surface and my release.
