Fresh House Shot 39''
Bowler Specs:
-High Ball speed
-Above avg Revs
-PAP: 5 1/4" x 1 3/8" up
-Right Handed
-I just punched holes in this ball today. I had a postbowl to makeup for from Wednesday night cuz we had a little bit of snow (28") not sure why we didnt bowl :-) Anyway.. I drilled this ball up RICO. I started out playing my normal shot at the bowling center 13-8. The ball rolled very clean through the heads and had a smooth slow arcing motion on the backend. This house shot typically hooks in the middle so you need to break the ball off outside 10. Well I pulled a few shots in as the day went on and it held with absolutly no over-reaction. I shot games of 257-238-279-235.
-My overview of the ball is that it is super clean through the heads reminding me of a pearl nomad but much smoother of the backend. This ball will be great on the shorter patterns. Britton and I will be doing video for this along with the Riot in the near future. Thanks for taking the time and reading.. Ill be glad to answer any questions you may have although remember I only rolled this ball for 4 games.

Other than the fact that the Dark Star uses a stronger cover, has a lower RG, and a higher differential, it's pretty much the same ball as the Pluto.

From Roto's Dark Star page:
Value and Performance have always been synonymous with the Roto Grip® brand, and the all new Dark Star™ stands to continue that tradition.
Our first goal was to develop a stronger Shield™ Line ball to fit into the Roto Grip® line. The Team felt that there was too big of a gap between the Nomads and the Planet series balls. The intent was to create more mid-lane read with stronger backend motion, so we developed the Photon™ core with a lower RG value and a higher differential.
To enhance this core motion we also added Ultimate Visionâ„¢ pearl coverstock to this ball. This performance proven coverstock was found on the EPICâ„¢ and Illusionâ„¢ series of balls. It boasts a higher coefficient of friction and surface texture for added traction in the oil and superior backend performance.
This combination of core and coverstock was the ideal fit into the line. Our tests showed that it filled the gap between the Nomads and the Planet series balls perfectly.
The legacy of value and performance will live on in the new Dark Starâ„¢.

i didnt compare it to the pearl nomad yet but I will do that this week.. from what I saw the other day Im thinkin same length and about 5-7 boards less on the backend. The Nomad a very strong angular pearl where this ball is going to be super smooth

Another update... I rolled this ball today at a wood house 42 ft in oil very dry outsides and moderate to heavy middle. I got to square up with this ball played around 12-8 if I pushed it right a tad it was very controllable off the spot. I only took 3 balls with me today (Hyroad-Dimension and Dark Star) Hyroad rolled about 3 ft sooner and read much stronger in the backend and the Dimension I stook 10 left and 5 with my eyes. I am very impressed with this ball so far!
-----I will be comparing it to my nomad pearl thursday and reporting the difference. Thanks TJ

It almost sounds similar to a grand illusion in ball reaction...

it should be close because they are the same cover stock
just a different core

lil League Coach,
How does the Dark Star handle small amounts of carry down? Many pearls don't handle carry down very well. How does the Dark Star's Ultimate Vision Pearl Reactive do on some carry down?
Thanks!

Its the same cover as the Illusion. The Grand was solid. If you want something to give you that look the Riot polished is the way to go.

COMPARISON With Nomad Pearl and DARK STAR:
I am doing this review on a carried down house shot on synthetics.. the way this breaks down is alot of oil in the middle and it lightly tapers out to the gutter.
- I started standing 22 playing 13-7 with the nomad pearl.. ball got thru the heads no pblm and made a strong move off the dry. The ball rolled very strong and angular on the backend even with this carrydown.
- Went to the Dark star playing the same line. I went bucket - flat 10.. So I moved my feet to 17 and played much more direct up 9-10 board. The ball rolled great I had some hold in the middle and some bounce off the outside. The ball still rolled extremely long but was much smoother and controllable on the back.
- CONCLUSION: Nomad Pearl is approximately 5 boards stronger up front and more angular on the backend!
