I just recently picked up a Saturn and had my proshop drill it strong and with the pin below the bridge to be a complement to my Neptune with a more neutral drilling and pin even with my ring finger. Its proving to be a very strong piece indeed. Much stronger than I had anticipated. I'm having difficulty finding a condition with enough oil to practice with it at the moment. I'm thinking about doing a surface adjustment for it but now the fun starts. What is the true OOB surface for the Saturn anyway?

The reason I'm asking is that I've seen the Saturn listed on this site and some others as 800 Machine Sanded but the RG Website lists it as 1000 Abralon. Is there a definitive answer as to what is the true OOB surface for the Saturn? Also does anyone have any experience with surface changes for the Saturn and what might work well for that ball. I'm a med to med slow speed bowler with above average revs which I guess puts me in the power tweener category. I don't usually see heavy oil most of the time. Conditions can vary at my center from med/light to pretty dried out.

As far as I know, the Saturn was originally stated to be finished to 800 grit matte/dull. If the website now says 1000 grit (abralon or not), then it's not a major difference. The Saturn was tested by BTM magazine and BJI to handle medium oil, for the average bowler, as far as I recall.

If 800/1000 is too early for you, then try 1500 grit or 2000 grit OR a light polish (I do mean light). It takes changes very well, as do all RG solid and pearl resins.
