Mars
« on: March 22, 2009, 06:28:31 AM »
Just wondering what u guys think of a mars being like a benchmark ball for more medium oil. i was thinking of drilling it 50-4-60. I'm just looking for something with smooth back end and let me play more outside around 10 because i have a Twisted fury drilled 70-4-65 which lets me play straight up the boards, i just want something to go above that. But i was wondering on how strong this ball actually was i know its stronger then what they advertise but how much more?
STATS-
REV 250
speed 14-15
pap 4in over 1/2 up

I might be wrong but I don't think you'll get the Mars to be much stronger than the Twisted Fury, except maybe with extreme drilling and surface prep.  The Mars could be a Benchmark ball but the TF is a decent one as well.  I believe a Grand Illusion would fit your purpose better.

I'm also a bit confused about what you want.  You said the TF lets you play up the boards but you want the Mars to let you play outside 10 but also to go above the TF.  If you want a ball to go above your TF it seems like you won't be playing outside 10 if you're talking about house patterns.

I agree with Strike Domination.
The Mars is hardly likely to be as strong as the TFP drilled as you specified, UNLESS you have changed the surface. You must be facing some fairly heavy house oil, given that ball, its drilling and your specs as given in your signature, to be playing "straight up the baords".

The Mars will probably not be a benchmark for you. I'd look at a Grand Illusion (sanded rougehr than the stockpolish) or a Pluto at the minimum.

I used my Mars yesterday in practice and was playing straight up 5 and this ball was destroying the rack. I was VERY surprised at the hitting power of this ball.

The lanes where dried out some but the ball performed much better for me than the Venus I had. I could not have used this ball on the fresh, but that's not what its meant for. My Rogue performed very well on the fresh heavy stuff.

Tracy (user T Brockette) was with me and he said the same thing about the Mars. We were both pleasantly surprised.
