Well a first for me. My wife and I took up bowling about 6 years ago. I have purchased several different ball during that time including a RG Cell that was purchased about 2 years ago. I use it fairly regularly including about three weeks ago in summer league. It has been sitting in my bedroom on the floor and yesterday when I glanced at it something was definitely not right. There was a crack that circled the ball from the right finger hole around to the thumb hole and a secondary hole starting from the same finger hole at a right angle about a quarter of the way around the ball.
I am very careful with how our bowling balls are handled. They have never been left in a hot car and with the help of many of you here I have learned how to clean the balls and keep them that way.
The ball is about two years old and I am guessing it will not be replaced, but I would like to try since it seems there has possible been an issue with the Cell as far as cracking.
I guess what I am asking you is how might I be able to prevent this in the future?

There is nothing you can do except keep the ball inside and out of the temp change when not being used. As far as geting it replaced, the warranty of the ball is 1 year from date of purchase and you said its 2 years old.

You might want to email RG just to see what they say. They have great customer service. Sorry about your loss.

Don't let them sit for extended periods of time. Use them. Today's urethane based covers are constantly curing. By using them periodically it keeps the cover more pliable and less susceptible to cracking.

Beyond that, it seems like a real "crap shoot". Some crack with constant care, while others don't with all kinds of abuse.

I have had only 2 crack on me over the past several years, and in both cases I was keeping them at room temperature, on a shelf, in seemingly perfect conditions, "saving" them for special occasions because they were favorites...

Great point..

I agree about it being a crap shoot.. I have had 1 ball crack out of 100 or more over the past 4 or 5 years.. I always take very good care of my stuff and never leave it in my car for longer than it takes to drive to the center.

My Cell cracked after very minimal use. Lucky, it was only a month old and was replaced under the warranty.

I chose a different ball as replacement, because the Cell was too strong for the conditions I was bowling on.

I haven't seen any other Cells come back to the shop cracked and we have drilled a ton of them!

It pretty much just happens! Over 42 years and hundreds of balls, I have had probably 15-20 balls crack! The resins that make them perform also seem to make them slightly brittle and subject to cracking. I have even had brand new, undrilled balls sitting in a display, crack all the way around the ball! The Cell has not been any better or worse than others. The old urethanes were the least likely to crack.

This indeed happens the most when a ball isn't used in a while.

So, use it or loose it, applies to bowling balls as well.

It is a crap shoot, just as Notclay says. My stuff stays in the car year round and I have yet to have one crack. Latest in my arsenal are a Cell, A Rogue Cell, and a Grand Illusion. I have also had a Big Blue, Victory, Victory R, Torque and a Saturn stay out there. I have been bowling for over a decade. The only 2 balls ever to crack on me were the Battle, bad drill(cracked around a plug), and a Pioneer, it sat in a proshop waiting to get sold for 2 months.

Just thought I would post that RG came through and replaced my Cell. I picked up my new one yesterday afternoon at Karen Pullman's Pro Shop here in SLC. Karen and Jordan were most helpful in working with me on the layout and fixing another issue I was having. Jordan also took some extra time in drilling up an older ball to make sure things would work out on the Cell. Thanks!
Now I just need some practice time. I could not hit the broad side of a barn last night, but that was with anything I threw. The Cell felt really good.
