Which is stronger?
« on: January 16, 2010, 06:07:31 PM »
Which ball is stronger, the Cell Pearl or the Nomad Pearl? From what i've heard, the Nomad Pearl is more angular? I'm looking for a ball below my Mutant.

The Cell Pearl still has that strong rolling core of the Cell line. It has a much more arc shape but will out hook a Nomad Pearl with the same drilling by at least 5 boards overall. So if you want a more natural snap ball that is the Nomad Pearl but it will not cover as many boards.

The Cell Pearl is stronger, but requires more oil, the Nomad Pearl is longer, can have more backend but needs less oil, in general, with the stock surface than the CP.

The CP, having an asymmetric core of medium strength, is much more flexible with regards to drilling options to get a wider variety of ball reactions than the Nomad Pearl. That does not make the NP a weak ball. Either COULD BE a step down from the Mutant, depending on how you AND YOUR DRILLER look at "a step down".

This is not a black and white, cut and dried discussion. There are too many variables "in the air".

I just went through this myself a few weeks ago
I drilled a mutant and it was too damn strong for me
I already had a Mars that was my go to ball on normal THS shots, and even some med volume sport patterns

I went with a Nomad pearl, and it is a great piece but certainly much less than a Mutant is
The cell Pearl in my opinion is much weaker than the Mutant is if drilled the same way,

theres a lot of room between a Nomad Pearl and Mutant Cell,
something like a Reign, or a Full Swing fits inbetween them

Im getting ready to drill a full swing up this week
Im looking for something above the Nomad Pearl and below the Mutant
but I want to do a solid so I decided on the full swing,

how does the cell pearl react to carrydown? Does the pearlized coverstock give the cell pearl good length?

Well my Cell Pearl gets good length.  I bowl on high friction wood lanes and the Cell Pearl works well.  My original Cell starts hooking at my feet.

The Cell Pearl gets really nice length. Nothing ridiculous or anything but a nice clean head and a strong predictable move in the midlane.

The Cell Pearl reacts very well on carry down. I bowl in one league where there''s is alot of head oil and clean backend. I would start off with my One Pearl drilled pin 4, mb @45 and val @45 which gives me a very smooth reaction. If I start off with my Cell Pearl drilled pin 4.5, mb @60 & val @30 it would over react in the back. When the lanes starts to transition with the oil carrying down the lane the One Pearl would start leaving weak tens I would take out my Cell Pearl and it would solve the problem. I love both balls.
