I'm in the process of drilling up my Nomad pearl and it doesn't seem like there is much if any filler in the ball. The cover is super thick and when drilling the thumb only got one color shavings after getting thru the cover. Now if there is no filler how does Roto vary the weight of the balls from 14 to 16? I'm assuming there is a generic core in the 12 and 13.

I didn't realize that they could take the core from the 16 lb ball and make it 2 lbs lighter. Is that how they do all balls with a core?

If you take the same core mold and change the solution that you pour into the mold to a lighter density material, then you can alter the weight of the core. By changing the weight of the core you can the weight of the ball and also increase the filler material.

EDIT: When I took a plant tour through the Hoptown Plant/Ebonite. I got to see the whole process of bowling ball manufacturing, and it was awesome to see! The had big wire crates that were tagged by the core name and for what weight ball. It was the most amazing tour that I''ve ever taken and I was like a kid in a candy store!!!
