If you take the same core mold and change the solution that you pour into the mold to a lighter density material, then you can alter the weight of the core. By changing the weight of the core you can the weight of the ball and also increase the filler material.
EDIT: When I took a plant tour through the Hoptown Plant/Ebonite. I got to see the whole process of bowling ball manufacturing, and it was awesome to see! The had big wire crates that were tagged by the core name and for what weight ball. It was the most amazing tour that I''ve ever taken and I was like a kid in a candy store!!!
