Thinking of putting a Roto ball in my arsenal for a benchmark reaction.
Thoughts?

Right now, the Grand Illusion or the Pluto could be benchmarks, but since they're in the midst of replacing the Illusion (Crown) line with the Nomads, I'd wait for a couple of weeks until reviews come out. I'm assuming the Nomad solid would also make a good benchmark ball.

Based to the Roto balls I've thrown, I'd recommend the Grand Illusion. It's a good ball that helps you get a read on how the lanes are playing and helps you avoid getting over/under reactions. Mine is laid out to go longer down lane with a smooth controlled arc and once I'm lined up, I can pretty much stay in the pocket by making pretty small adjustments through a 3-game league series.
My current Roto arsenal is:
Neptune for very light & dry oil conditions
Pluto for light to medium oil
Grand Illusion, Epic Saga & Cell Pearl for medium to heavy Oil
Cell solid for heavy oil

I have found my benchmark ball has accidently become my Pluto. When nothing else is working, it always is. It is now 90% of the time my first ball out of the bag.

Steve from looking at the numbers, I think you are going to be correct. I thought about a Storm Furious, but the initial is that balls still hooks a lot. I want a benchmark that I can get a pretty good read and adjust up or down my arsenal from.

I own the Grand Illusion and it is the definition of bench mark ball! I always get a nice smooth reaction no matter what the shot...except extreme dry...then your in trouble. I have had great success on every PBAX shot with it.
The Nomad is going to way stronger than the Grand Illusion. That Rotary core is nothing to be played with. I think that we are going to see a Horizon solid type reaction out of the nomad. A lot rollier piece that can handle a lot more oil than your avg mid priced ball.
