Cell with a 1" pin, your input appreciated.
« on: January 30, 2008, 07:20:16 AM »
I recently got a Cell and it had a 1" pin, initially I was dissapointed but my ball driller said no problem, we can just drill the finger holes deeper to offset the short pin. I believe it is the 5X4 drilling.

The ball is very rolly but I am not getting the same "continuation through the pins" that everyone is talking about with this ball. I have been leaving alot of 10 pins and alot of left side pins are standing. Even when all the pins fall, there is almost always 1 or 2 on the left side that seem to fall late. It has been the weirdest carry I have ever gotten from a ball that I can consistently hit the pocket with.

Depth of the holes:
Middle Finger- 3 inches
Ring Finger- 4 3/8 of an inch
X hole- 3 inches (X hole and ring finger come close to touching each other at the bottom)

I was worried about the depth of the holes taking away from the core. Anyone else ever done this and how did you like it?

Could all this be because the ball is lighter due to more of the ball being drilled out and thus causing the ball to deflect more?

Or is all this in my head?

-------Pin-

Pin is slightly above fingers and cg is slightly below, the finger holes kinda split them. MB is slightly right of stacked below

I wanted a drill that would get it down the lane a bit, balls tend to burn up on me when the pin is below the fingers.

Have you considered adding a little polish to delay the roll? It's the only thing I can think of, and it does make the reaction less desireable you can always take it back to out-of-box condition.
Good luck finding a solution.

"I was worried about the depth of the holes taking away from the core."

With the finger holes that deep and close to the pin.  The core shape has changed.

A possibility would have been the pin under the middle finger to eliminate the need for deep hole and still maintain the length down the lane.

2EZ- I tried polishing it but did not like the reaction I was getting.  I am not saying this ball is crap or anything, my first 2 sets with it were 676 and 661 and I am a 213 avg bowler.  Then I polished it and shot 575 and could not carry.

DREV-I do not know my pap.  I am a med high track player if that helps.  I think the beginning weight was 15.1 lbs can't remember exactly what the top weight was, I think it was in the 2.5-3 range.  I don't have the box anymore, sorry.

Wilbert- I wish I knew that prior.  I might plug and redrill at some point.

Just curious, but are you sitting there pounding one line to death, or are you moving around and trying different angles?

No, I throw multiple lines all the time, sometimes too much.  When I first got the ball I threw fine different shots on five different lines and they all carried, I was somewhat impressed.  Overall I like the ball but I just don't see the continuation through the pins that everyone is talking about.  I think I am seeing the ball deflect more than my shots normally due and I am curiuos if it is because of the drill(depth of holes) taking away from the core?  I have never seen so many pins left or falling late on the left side.
