Roto Grip coverstock question
« on: February 18, 2005, 05:46:39 PM »
Seeing as Roto Grip is a sister company of Storm I would assume that they might use the same coverstocks on their balls, but name them differently.  I just picked up a Super Sonic and was wondering what the equivalent coverstock would be on a Storm ball.  Curelyon perhaps? Pro Glide?

How can I politely put this --- yes and no.

Some RG covers are equivalent to Storm's; some are very different. AS far as I know, they use the same chemical supplier, but the Sonic series has covers unique to RG. That's all I can say, at this point in time. Ask RG for mote intimate details.

Oh, the APocalypse, again, as far as I know, has a cover also unique to RG.

They DO design their own balls, not just cores, not just covers - they design the whole ball. Try one of them; you may like what you get.

This may not be entirely related...but...I've averaged one or two new balls a year for the past 8 years.  And each of the purchases has been a Storm.  I fell in love with the company after getting my Original ThunderStorm.  Now I've decided to try a RotoGrip - Sonic Boom....I've heard some people question the longevity of the RotoGrip coverstocks.  I clean on polish my balls on my spinner every 3 sets or so.  Does anyone have an opinion on how well I should expect the cover stock of the Boom to hold up??  Thanks in advance.

The Super Sonic would be close to what is on the Hot Rod Pro Stock.

As everyone said above, different core and cover combinations designed by Hank Boomershine, President of Roto Grip.

Thanks,

No sir, Thank you!  I didn't think the Super Sonic would have a coverstock that strong.  I really like it so far.  Tossed 268 with it on a lane that was tracked up after a Sunday night mixed league.  A weaker ball that can be swung.  Sweet!
