Roto-Grip Epic Battle - For Heavy Oil & Layout Suggestions?
« on: August 09, 2006, 08:45:59 AM »
Greetings & Hearty Felicitations Roto & Br Family,

I have been looking at this ball for awhile now.
One of my good buddies (BR User: Jonathan Ng)
has one he likes his. Ball seems to rev up early & hits great.

My question is, how much oil can the Epic Battle handle?
I understand that this ball has a very light load of particle
injected into the coverstock.

If I do get one, I'm thinking of Pin under ring and MB kicked
out to about 1.5-2 inches next to thumb in the strong position.
I don't want it to flippy, so I figured pin under ring would
smoothen out the back for me.

Stats are in my profile.

Thanks everyone!
Ram

I'm definately not any good with layouts and things, however, just an FYI.  I have never met anyone, who has this ball, that does not absolutely LOVE it.

I would definately get one, and hopefully you'll be able to talk with someone from RG on how to lay it out.

I'm in no way affiliated with any ball company, just affiliated with a lot of word of mouth on bowling equipment

i hardly ever get to use my battle, too much ball and not enough oil!!!  rick drilled it to roll early with pin over ring and mb kicked out between thumb and pap.  creates a nice strong arc for me.  just picked up the epic saga for medium.  almost too strong, but still very nice, with a angular move off the spot.  not quite skid flip, but close.

I like your layout idea.

I have a Battle drilled that way for heavy oil and high volume Sport conditions.  Box finish is fine at first. If you need to add more surface you can with ease.  I have thrown the Battle with a red pad finish and it does not hurt the back end performance on heavy patterns.

Dril it and have fun.

I have my battle layed out like you said, but with the MB maybe 2.5" right of thumb.  I used this on the long oil pattern in a recent large tournament and my RSP was barely oving while I could vertually hook the lane with this, at speed, and have it carry (on the occasions I hit the pocket lol).

I really doubt you could find a better oil ball than this, and that drilling
